Rubber lining types

Milk-of-lime transfer pumps should be of the open impeller centrifugal type. Pumps having an iron body and impeller with bronze trim are suitable for this purpose. Rubber-lined pumps with rubber-covered impellers are also frequently used. Makeup tanks are usually provided ahead of centrifugal pumps to ensure a flooded suction at all times. Plating out of lime is minimized by the use of soft water in the makeup tank and slurry recirculation. Turbine pumps and eductors should be avoided in transferring milk of lime because of scaling problems.

If all particles pass through mesh screen, rubber lined pumps are available which will give many times the life of metal pumps, providing no chemical action or excessive temperature will deteriorate the rubber. Special rubber compounds can be applied to improve resistance to certain chemicals. Open, which allows better application of the rubber, except in larger sizes. Also made in closed type.

One way to estimate prices of items when they cannot be found is to compare them with other items that might be similar or to items that might be expected to cost about the same. To be conservative for the cutter, it was assumed that a blender would cost at least as much and probably more. Its price was equated to that of a similar size blender ( 5,000). In place of an anchor-type agitator, the costs for a propeller-type agitator was used. Similarly, it was assumed that an epoxy-lined tank would cost the same as a rubber-lined tank.

Typically, the entire contents of a calcium hypochlorite container are emptied into a mixing tank where they are readily and completely dissolved in water. The resulting corrosive solution is stored in and fed from a stock solution vessel constructed of corrosion-resistant materials such as plastic, ceramic, glass, or rubber-lined steel. Solutions of 1% or 2% available chlorine can be delivered by a diaphragm-type, chemical feed pump or metering pump.
