Starchaser Industries have launched Nova, a 11 m tall rocket fitted with cfrp cowlings [87], Man Technologies have developed a carbon composite booster case for Ariane 5 by laying up dry non-crimp fabrics on a cylindrical mandrel, using resin injection under vacuum and curing in an oven at ambient pressure.

An important appHcation is for filament-wound glass-reinforced pipe used in oil fields, chemical plants, water distribution, and as electrical conduits. Low viscosity Hquid systems having good mechanical properties (elongation at break) when cured are preferred. These are usually cured with Hquid anhydride or aromatic-amine hardeners. Similar systems are used for filament-win ding pressure botdes and rocket motor casings. 

The cycloaliphatic resins also are clearly superior in arc resistance and arc track resistance. This has led to applications in the tension insulators, rocket motor cases and transformer encapsulation.

Maraging steels have found varied uses in the aerospace and aircraft industries. These uses have included rocket motor cases, landing gear components, aircraft forgings and fasteners. Other areas of usage include machine tool and die applications, and extrusion hardware. Marine uses include hydrofoil foil systems and aircraft arrester hooks. 

Epoxy resins for printed circuits, castings, rocket motor casings, coatings, and adhesives are almost all made from bisphenol A. Polycarbonates based on bisphenol A are used in glazing applications such as aircraft windows, school windows, and other areas where a combination of toughness and high clarity are required. 

Filament-wound structures are often used to store fluid under pressure fuel storage tanks, rocket motor cases, natural gas, and oxygen storage tanks. In some cases, the filament-wound structure is subjected to external pressure a diving bell or submarine. Filament winding has... 

Use Rocket motor cases, underwater and space structures, pressure vessels, radomes, torpedo cases, booms, and tubes. 

Operation For an energetic material to be recycled, it typically must be removed from its current container, e.g., projectile body or rocket motor casing. Conventional techniques involve some combination of disassembly and punching or cutting to gain access to the energetic material.

The volume of solid and liquid wastes other than metal rocket motor casing and fin fragments is expected to be low about 0.9 kg of filter dust and 0.2 m of condensate water and cooler blowdown per shot. Again, the dust from the filter will contain lead and could be defined as a RCRA hazardous waste. Although agent contamination is not an issue, the offgases will require treatment. Their volume and constituents will depend on the materials that are detonated and combusted in the DAVINCH vessel—that is, rocket propellant and, possibly, overpacking materials.

Very small to large filament wound cases have been fabricated for use on rockets and missiles. As an example, a racetrack filament winding RP fabricating technique was used to fabricate a very large tank (rocket motor case) for NASA. See Chapter 5 Filament Windings, Racetrack and Other Winders.
