The viruses responsible for AIDS are human immunodeficiency virus 1 and 2 (HIV 1 and HIV 2) Both are retroviruses, meaning that their genetic material is RNA rather than DNA HI Vs require a host cell to reproduce and the hosts m humans are the T4 lymphocytes which are the cells primarily responsible for inducing the immune system to respond when provoked The HIV penetrates the cell wall of a T4 lymphocyte and deposits both its RNA and an enzyme called reverse transcriptase inside There the reverse transcriptase catalyzes the formation of a DNA strand that is complementary to the viral RNA The transcribed DNA then serves as the template from which the host lymphocyte produces copies of the virus which then leave the host to infect other T4 cells In the course of HIV reproduction the ability of the T4 lymphocyte to reproduce Itself IS compromised As the number of T4 cells decrease so does the body s ability to combat infections... 

Although motors and controllers can be bought separately, the trend is to purchase a system from a given manufacturer. There are six types oi variable-speed drives, as own in F ig. 29-73. Dynamic response indicates the ability of the drive to respond to a change in command it is measured in radians/second the higher the number, the faster the drive response.

Chemical PPE In a fire or thermal energy hazard, PPE worn by responders should meet, at a minimum, the criteria in 29 CER 1910.156 (e), Eire Brigade Standard, requiring turnout gear. In conditions where skin absorption of a hazardous substance may result in substantial possibility of immediate death, serious illness, or injury or impaired ability to escape, totally encapsulated chemical protective suits should be used. It is vital to keep heat resistance of the totally encapsulated suits and the heat resistance of any PPE used underneath or in conjunction with the totally encapsulated suits in mind any time there is a thermal hazard. 

The most important hardware items appeared to be the detectors themselves. The gas detection system gave frequent spurious alarms, and on both platforms the ultraviolet (UV) fire detectors were also prone to spurious activation from distant hot work for example, and had a limited ability to detect real fires. The tmreliability of these systems had a general effect on response time and would, overall, lengthen the time to respond. The second aspect which was related to hardware was fimction and performance testing of the emergency blowdown systems. It is critical that the workers believe the systems will work when required, and this can only be achieved by occasional use or at least fimction testing. 

A Yes, although our performance is one of the best in the industry, our failure to improve in the last few years is disappointing. However, this is only one of several reasons. We have seen the benefits of ISO 9000 and redesigned business processes in other parts of our business. It is now time to get these benefits into PSM and ESH. We believe that an ability to respond faster to new demands will provide a business advantage. We will be able to permit new facilities faster and respond to new regulations and standards more quickly and at lower cost than our competitors. 

All markets are protected to some extent. Domestic suppliers have, at times, the natural protection of lower transportation costs, a greater understanding of the local marketplace through its experience and knowledge of social customs and culture, and an easier ability to respond to domestic customer requirements. Added to this, tariff duties may have to be paid on imports. 

In nephrogenic diabetes insipidus the kidney s ability to respond to AVP is impaired by different causes, such as drugs (e.g. lithium), chronic disorders (e.g. sickle cell disease, kidney failure) or inherited genetic disorders (X-linked or autosomal NDI). This type of diabetes insipidus can not be treated by exogenous administration of AVP or AVP analogues. Instead, diuretics (hydrochlorothiazide combined or not with amiloride) and NSAI (indomethacin) are administrated to ameliorate polyuria. 

It is essential, therefore, many respondents agreed, to teach students the ability to distinguish clearly between the macro-level of phenomena and the micro-level of corpuscles, and more in particular, to teach them to think back and forth, i.e. in terms of the macro-micro relationships involved in corpuscular explanations. 

A biomarker of susceptibility is an indicator of an inherent or acquired limitation of an organism s ability to respond to the challenge of exposure to a specific xenobiotic substance. It can be an intrinsic genetic or other characteristic or a preexisting disease that results in an increase in absorbed dose, a decrease in the biologically effective dose, or a target tissue response. If biomarkers of susceptibility exist, they are discussed in Section 3.10 Populations That Are Unusually Susceptible. 

It has been shown [56] that if we measure the areas under the approach and retract curves of the force-distance plot we can get quantitative values of the resilience. Resilience is closely related to the ability of the polymer chain to rotate freely, and thus will be affected by rate and extent of deformation, as well as temperature. Different materials will respond differently to changes in these variables [46] hence, changing the conditions of testing will result in a change in absolute values of resilience and may even result in a change in ranking of the materials. Compared to more traditional methods of resilience measurement such as the rebound resiliometer or a tensUe/compression tester. 

The presence of ions in solution is what gives a sodium chloride solution the ability to conduct electricity. If positively and negatively charged wires are dipped into the solution, the ions in the solution respond to the charges on the wires. Chloride anions move toward the positive wire, and sodium cations move toward the negative wire. This directed movement of ions in solution is a flow of electrical current. Pure water, which has virtually no dissolved ions, does not conduct electricity. Any solution formed by dissolving an ionic solid in water conducts electricity. Ordinary tap water, for example, contains Ionic Impurities that make It an electrical conductor.
