Health and Safety Factors. Unlike fluoroacetic acid, trifluoroacetic acid presents no unusual toxicity problems. However, owing to its strong acidity, its vapors can be irritating to tissue, and the Hquid acid can cause deep bums if allowed to contact the skin. Cadmium Sulfide Photoconductor. CdS photoconductive films are prepared by both evaporation of bulk CdS and settHng of fine CdS powder from aqueous or organic suspension foUowed by sintering (60,61). The evaporated CdS is deposited to a thickness from 100 to 600 nm on ceramic substates. The evaporated films are polycrystaUine and are heated to 250°C in oxygen at low pressure to increase photosensitivity. Copper or silver may be diffused into the films to lower the resistivity and reduce contact rectification and noise. The copper acceptor energy level is within 0.1 eV of the valence band edge. Sulfide vacancies produce donor levels and cadmium vacancies produce deep acceptor levels. [Pg.431]

It consists of self-aligned emitter and base contacts, a thin intrinsic base with an optimized collector doping profile, and deep-trench isolation (36). The most widely used austenitic stainless steel is Type 304, known as 18—8. It has excellent corrosion resistance and, because of its austenitic stmcture, excellent ductihty. It may be deep-drawn or stretch formed. It can be readily welded, but carbide precipitation must be avoided in and near the weld by cooling rapidly enough after welding. Where carbide precipitation presents problems. Types 321, 347, or 304L may be used. The appHcations of Types 304 are wide and varied, including kitchen equipment and utensils, dairy installations, transportation equipment, and oil-, chemical-, paper- (qv), and food-processing (qv) machinery. [Pg.399]

Corrosion Resistance. Titanium is immune to corrosion in all naturally occurring environments. It does not corrode in air, even if polluted or moist with ocean spray. It does not corrode in soil and even the deep salt-mine-type environments where nuclear waste might be buried. It does not corrode in any naturally occurring water and most industrial wastewater streams. This ratio characterizes the abhity of materials to resist thinning during forming operations (13). In particular, it is a measure of the abhity of a sheet material to resist the thinning and failure at the base of a deep drawn cup. The plastic strain ratio is measured at 0°, 45°, and 90° relative to the rolling direction. The most popular coloration method is to apply the dyes continuously, usually by padding, but printing, spray jet, and droplet appHcations are used.
