Reptilian species

Literature data for toxicological effects of carbon disulfide to avian or reptilian species are lacking at this time. There would be a great amount of uncertainty in attempting to quantify the potential for adverse effects to these taxa, or in the extrapolation of adverse effects from other taxa. 

Because of the slow elimination (long half-life) of antimicrobial agents in reptiles, dosage intervals are substantially longer in reptilian compared with mammalian species (Jacobson, 1993) (Table 6.14). To avoid significantly decreased systemic availability of drugs that are eliminated by renal excretion (e.g. (3-lactam and aminoglycoside antibiotics), the site of intramuscular injection should be the anterior half of the body most reptilian species have a well-developed renal portal system. 

Histochemical studies have revealed the presence of sialic acid in cephalic glands of several reptilian species, Ameiva ameiva (Lacertilia, Teiidae), Micrurus corallinus corallinus (Ophiadea, Elapidae), and o/Zi-rops jararaca (Ophiadia, Viperidae) (Lopes and Valeri, 1972 Lopes et al.y 1973 1974). 

Not all faeces were avoided no species significantly avoided the herbivore faeces tested (whiptail wallaby) or the reptilian predator. Their avoidance of mammalian predator faeces, however, suggests that there may be an intrinsic component to such faeces that elicits a response. The novel odour (acetic acid) was never avoided by M. cervinipes and U. caudimaculatus however, R.fuscipes avoided this odour twice, its most consistent avoidance response, which I am at a loss to explain. I was catapulted quite beyond the room into a realm where reptilian people were in a battle with human beings of our planet. They were from a different dimension of reality and through some opening or tear between our two worlds, they were able to make their way into ours. They were trying to take over our minds and bodies and were extremely focused on domination over our species. I felt I was experiencing some distant time in the beginning of our human presence on this planet. 

Toxicity studies with other compounds involving S. occidentalis have indicated that the species is amenable to longer-term studies of at least 60 d. The model has proven to be a viable reptilian toxicity testing system and will be used to further evaluate the toxicity of military-related energetic compounds. 

Next to the lack of the high compositional heterogeneity and lack of CpG islands, other general features distinguish reptilian genomes from those of warm-blooded vertebrates (see Table 12.3). Indeed, T bands are absent in chromosomes from turtles, lizards and snakes (M. Schmid, personal comm.), and karyotypic change and species formation are much slower in this vertebrate class (as they also are in fishes and amphibians) compared to warm-blooded vertebrates (Bush et al., 1977 see also Bernard , 1993b).
