Renewable electricity (RES-E) Electricity generated from renewable non-fossil energy sources, i.e., wind, solar, geothermal, wave, tidal, hydropower, biomass, landfill gas, sewage treatment plant gas and biogas (this corresponds to the definition in Directive 2001/77/EC on renewables, Article 2). 

We recognize the nuclear reactions of the sun as the main source of our energy and the crucial role of photosynthesis as the conversion process of solar light into fossil energy carriers and renewable biomass. We also recognize gravitational sources that result in tidal movement and the earth s thermal resources. 

All these circumstances have lead the industry to begin searching for a new source of energy an alternative and completely petroleum-independent power source. Several technologies are being researched, such as biomass (bio-diesel, ethanol), renewable ocean sources (wave, tidal, and thermal), hydrogen, and many more. 

Wave power, tidal power, municipal solid waste, gas from animal wastes (biogas), landfill, peat energy and ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC) are the other renewable energy sources (RES). Water energy sources are hydropower, tidal and wave technologies. 

Hydrogen production. Intensive R D is underway on the production of hydrogen from natural gas and biomass. Concerning biological hydrogen, a national co-operative platform has been formed with 11 institutes and universities. In addition, thermal (pyrolysis) and hydrothermal processes are being studied at multiple places. Other research areas include various thermal and hydrothermal processes (BTC, TNO, ECN), and hydrogen from electricity produce by renewables (solar, wind, and tidal power).

Renewable Energy Resources Energy resources that are naturally replenishing but flow-limited. They are virtually inexhaustible in duration but limited in the amount of energy that is available per unit of time. Renewable energy resources include biomass, hydro, geothermal, solar, wind, ocean thermal, wave action and tidal action. 

The main benefit of tidal power, in comparison with other forms of renewable energy, is its predictability. The timing and force of tides can be predicted with great accuracy, and thus so can the power produced by a plant. The main drawback of this power source is its high initial equipment cost, which runs many times that of conventional power sources.

The choice of a renewable energy source to power a hydrogen fuel cell system will depend on the geography, climate and other resources of the location. I have chosen photovoltaics as the example power source for hydrogen production because it is available to more people than either geothermal, wind, or tidal. For a person without much technical skill, solar power is easier to implement than wind power. It is also less costly up front and not as dependent on location as the other RE power sources...
