Operations Platforms

It is generally agreed that a shelter with a roof having ridge ventilation and with curtain walls not extending lower than 8 feet above the operating platform would be freely ventilated. Because a gas compressor would not be a source of hazard, except under abnormal conditions such as an equipment failure, this type of compressor shelter is usually classified as a Division 2 area.

Hydrogen production. Intensive R D is underway on the production of hydrogen from natural gas and biomass. Concerning biological hydrogen, a national co-operative platform has been formed with 11 institutes and universities. In addition, thermal (pyrolysis) and hydrothermal processes are being studied at multiple places. Other research areas include various thermal and hydrothermal processes (BTC, TNO, ECN), and hydrogen from electricity produce by renewables (solar, wind, and tidal power). 

Remember that the GxP requirements for computer data are the same as for manufacturing records and documentation. Similarly, computer hardware (operating platforms and supporting networks) should fulfill the GxP requirements of manufacturing equipment. 

Not be placed near operating platforms or ventilating-fan intakes. 

The elevation of the top of a manually operated, open-top degreaser should be approximately 42 in. (1.07 m) above either the floor level or the operating platform. This elevation is considered sufficient to provide protection against a person falling into a degreaser and is an approved elevation with reference to the operator s breathing zone. Fixed stairways mnst be provided for access from one structure to another where operations necessitate regnlar travel between levels and for access to operating platforms at any equipment that requires attention routinely during operations. Fixed stairs must also be provided where access to an elevation is daily, or at each shift where such work may expose employees to harmful substances or for purposes for which carrying of tools or equipment by hand is normally required. Spiral stairways are not permitted, except for special limited usage and secondary access situations where it is not practical to provide a conventional stairway.

Falling-film evaporators do not require a large floor space, they require a certain height and therefore, several operating platforms are necessary. 

The suction drums for compressors 1 and 2 are located along the equipment line just to the west of the operating platform. Often, the outlet line of the suction drum to the compressor suction nozzle requires a flow meter with straight run lengths upstream and downstream. This arrangement permits the natural configuration of the line to satisfy the meter flow requirements. 

Compressor 3 has an inter-cooler mounted directly below the machine, which is supplied by the vendor. Again, ample access must be provided for tube removal. The lube oil console for compressor 3 is located just outside and clear of the operating platform to the east. Again, a free-draining oil return line to the console must be provided. The suction drum for compressor 3 is on the equipment line to the east of the operating platform. 

Access to the operating platform is by two stairways at opposite ends of the area, allowing emergency exit. 

Each machine has a control panel that Is placed along the north edge of the operating platform. Because there is no shelter over this particular area, all major maintenance is handled by mobile equipment.
