Receptor Analogues

Calixarenes (from the Latin ca/ x) may be understood as artificial receptor analogues of the natural cyclodextrins (96,97). In its prototypical form they feature a macrocycHc metacyclophane framework bearing protonizable hydroxy groups made from condensation of -substituted phenols with formaldehyde (Fig. 15b). Dependent on the ring size, benzene derivatives are the substrates most commonly included into the calix cavity (98), but other interesting substrates such as C q have also been accommodated (Fig. 8c) (45).

A convenient synthesis was developed for ibotenic /3-lactams 267 (glutamate receptor analogues) using a ringswitching technique, wherein ozonolysis of BOC-protected 266 (R Bu -O-CO) followed by reduction with dimethyl sulfide provided a key aldehyde. Irrespective of the cis/trans ratio of the initial vinyl-/3-lactam, the same mixture of diastereoisomers resulted, and they were further used without purification because of the instability of the aldehydes (Equation 22) <20030BC2670>. 

OTHER HIGHLY POTENT SELECTIVE DELTA OPIOID RECEPTOR ANALOGUES... 

On the natural sialic acid some structural modifications have been suggested by a preliminary analysis of the three-dimensional structures of influenza virus HA complexed with cell receptor analogues [20,26]. 

Apart from their prebiotic effects, there is also evidence that HMOS act as receptor analogues to inhibit the adhesion of pathogens on the epithelial surface (22) and interact directly with human immune cells (23) as well as with animal immune cells in preclinical experiments (24,25).

Positive anti-adherence activity (+) is measured as the ability of the compounds to suppress agglutimation of both human red blood cells (A, Rh+) and latex beads coated with synthetic P receptor analogue following incubation with P-fimbriated E. coli. Dilution of compounds 1-6 in PBS, neutralized with IN NaOH.
