The function of reboilers has already been discussed. These components are essentially heat exchangers that are used to transfer heat to bring the liquid at the bottom of the column to its boiling point (refer also to discussions in Chapter 1). The principle types employed are jacketted kettles, simple kettle type reboilers, internal reboilers, and thermo-syphon reboilers. Examples of each type are illustrated in Figure 7. [Pg.170]

The use of electric powered steam generators, steam-to-steam heat exchangers, or reboilers to provide steam to steamtables, humidifiers, autoclaves, and for direct injection into the process. Where this type of approach is employed, it generally is necessary to provide a high quality water source to avoid rapid internal deposition of crystalline scales and foulants. [Pg.533]

Estimation of column costs for preliminary process evaluations requires consideration not only of the basic type of internals but also of their effect on overall system cost. For a distillation system, for example, the overall system can include the vessel (column), attendant structures, supports, and foundations auxiliaries such as reboiler, condenser, feed neater, and control instruments and connecting piping. The choice of internals influences all these costs, but other factors influence them as well. A complete optimization of the system requires a full-process simulation model that can cover all pertinent variables influencing economics. [Pg.85]
