Reactor general arrangement

Make a preliminary mechanical design for the reactor the vessel design, heat-transfer surfaces, internals and general arrangement. 

The general arrangement of the simulator assembly is shown in Figure 1 and is comprised of a flow control system, a reactor, a data acquisition system and over-ride controls that ensure safety in operations.

These are actions of the computer which are initiated by events, e.g. switching off a pump when a tank has been filled to a certain level. They form the basis of the response of computer-controlled plant to alarm conditions, e.g. if the temperature in the reactor described in Fig. 7.102 exceeds a specified value then action must be taken by the computer, such as rapidly increasing the flow of coolant or reducing the feed to the reactor. Generally, sensor-initiated operations must be performed within a specified maximum time interval and are often in the form of alarm interrupts (Section 7.18.3). Smaller systems will regularly scan a set of specific process variables via a multiplexer to see if any action is necessary. The latter arrangement is called polling. 

Figure 2 shows the general arrangement of a gasifier/ reactor/combustor applied to a typical heating or power boiler. 

The model. A multi-component and multi-reactor system, arranged according to the general model depicted in Hg.5-1, is considered, which extends the scheme in Fig.4-1. It covers numerous flow arrangements and processes encountered in Chemical Engineering.

The general arrangement of the moderator in all of the eight production reactors is similar although there are diffeiences of detail, (See figures 1 through 5) For the six old reactors the lattice (distance between centers of adjacent tubes in both the horizontal and vertical dimensions) is 8-3/4 Inches and for KE and KW Reactors, it is 7-1/2 inches. The lattice need not be square. N Reactor has a 8" x 9 lattice.

A view of the general arrangement of the fuel-handling system is shown in Fig. 5.6. New fuel assemblies arrive at the plant in shielded and cushioned containers. They are unloaded and inspected in a shielded new fuel-handling facility located in the reactor service building (RSB). Upon acceptance of a core component, it is stored in a subcritical array in a storage facility located in the floor of the new fuelhandling facility. 

The simple batch reactor generally consists of a cooled, agitated mixing tank designed for operation at ambient pressure. Figure 3.1 shows a type of a simple batch reactor arrangement. There are four basic operating steps for this type of reactor used in alkylphenol service.

The general arrangement of the plant is shown in the isometric diagram in fig 7.5.3. In addition there are the usual workshop and radwaste buildings which abut the main reactor building shown. The Control Room is located behind the wall at the top left of the figure.
