After metallization of the plasma-modified polyimide, there were a number of peaks in the TOF-SIMS spectra that confirmed the existence of Cu-N bonds as required by the proposed reaction mechanism (see Fig. 28). The most significant... [Pg.312]

In other instances, reaction kinetic data provide an insight into the rate-controlling steps but not the reaction mechanism see, for example, Hougen and Watson s analysis of the kinetics of the hydrogenation of mixed isooctenes (16). Analysis of kinetic data can, however, yield a convenient analytical insight into the relative catalyst activities, and the effects of such factors as catalyst age, temperature, and feed-gas impurities on the catalyst. [Pg.22]

The lUPAC names for organic transformations, first introduced in the Third Edition, is included. Since then the rules have been broadened to cover additional cases hence more such names are given in this edition. Furthermore, lUPAC has now published a new system for designating reaction mechanisms (see p. 384), and some of the simpler designations are included. [Pg.2092]

Ene reactions offer an excellent means of commencing a domino process, and typical carbon-ene reactions are described in this section (for details of the reaction mechanisms, see Chapter 1). [Pg.329]

Thus, irradiation of phenyl /3-D-glucopyranoside yielded D-glucose (up to 70% yield) the conversion of the same glucoside into methyl a- and jS-D-glucopyranoside (transglycosylation) may also serve as an example to illustrate the reaction mechanism (see Scheme 6). [Pg.184]

The exact mechanism of silanization depends on the reaction conditions. It is generally accepted that silanization in a Uquid solution is a three-step process [20]. In a first step, the silanes mentioned before form silanetriols by hydrolyzation in the presence of water on the surface or in the solvent. These silanetriols attach themselves by physiosorption via hydrogen bonds onto the substrate surface. Subsequently, the silanol groups react with the free hydroxyl groups on the surface according to a Sn2 reaction mechanism (see Fig. 5). [Pg.45]

Digital computer software that allows an investigator to determine the magnitude of rate constants for individual steps within a chemical reaction mechanism. See KINSIM/FITSIM... [Pg.282]

The hydrogenation reaction mechanisms may be classified according to the role played by the substrate in the coordination sphere of the metal catalyst. Thus, those mechanisms proceeding with coordination of the substrate to the metal center can be labeled as inner-sphere mechanisms, whereas those with no direct coordination of the substrate to the metal center can be labeled as outer-sphere reaction mechanism (see Scheme 4). Hydrogenation reactions belonging to the so-called hydrogen transfer reactions (where the hydrogen source is usually an alcohol) can be also classified within these two families of reaction... [Pg.233]

Based on these structural features and biochemical evidences, a possible reaction mechanism (see Scheme 11) has been proposed (219) which is similar to that for HCA II. [Pg.185]

The above observations clearly indicate the inadequacy of the simple second-order law for describing the reaction rate outside the conditions of strongly acidic solutions and low initial cerium(III) concentrations. A more general rate law, suggested by considerations of the reaction mechanism (see Discussion), which takes into account the inhibiting effect of cerium(III), is of the form... [Pg.239]

The double-reciprocal plot of enzyme reaction rates is very useful in distinguishing between certain types of enzymatic reaction mechanisms (see Fig. 6-14) and in analyzing enzyme inhibition (see Box 6-2). [Pg.206]

As shown in Table 3-1, ozone can destroy other disinfectants. This should be avoided by dosing them not ahead of ozonation stages, but rather at the end of the total treatment before the distribution of water to the supply-net. A special case is the reaction of ozone with H202 (correctly with the species H02 ), which is used as an advanced oxidation process (AOP) for intensified formation of hydroxyl radicals and their oxidative attack on persistent organic target compounds (persistent against ozone in the direct reaction mechanism) (see Chapter A 2). [Pg.24]

Fluoropyruvate is converted quantitatively by pyruvate decarboxylase from wheat germ into acetate, fluoride (F ), and carbon dioxide. Propose a reaction mechanism. See Gish, G., Smyth, T., and Kluger, R. (1988) /. Am. Chem. Soc. 110, 6230-6234. [Pg.763]

Also, it should be pointed out in this connection that the reaction mechanism (see Fig. 4 and Section III,D,5,a) postulated on the basis of kinetic observations may be an oversimplification of the actual situation. For example, the possibility exists that separate phosphoryl-enzyme intermediates may be formed with various phosphate substrates (10). If such intermediates were interconvertible with a single phosphoryl-enzyme complex which was common to reactions involving all such substrates, and if the rates of these interconversions were very rapid relative to the other steps in the catalytic process, the system would be kinetically indistinguishable from that depicted in Fig. 4. Further work relating to the mechanism of reaction, and the experimental assessment of the possible involvement of this multifunctional catalyst in intra- and extracellular glucose transport, would appear to be in order. [Pg.563]

Equations 2.11 and 2.12 express a linear relationship of free energies known as the Hammett a-p rejationshjp. or simply as the Hammett equation. It can be applied to reaction rales of substituted aromatic compounds as well as to equilibrium constants, and we shall find that it is a very useful tool for obtaining information about reaction mechanisms. (See, for example, Problem 2.1.)... [Pg.62]

This system was later expelled from the Gif family due to a different reaction mechanism (see below). [Pg.74]

We have seen above that the rate law of a reaction is a consequence of the mechanism, so the protocol is that (i) we propose a mechanism, (ii) deduce the rate law required by the mechanism and (iii) check experimentally whether it is observed. If the experimental result is not in agreement with the prediction, the mechanism is defective and needs either refinement or rejection. Clearly, the ability to deduce the rate law from a proposed mechanism is a necessary skill for any investigator of reaction mechanisms (see Chapter 4). [Pg.5]

Of the wide range of these types of processes, this study focuses mainly on three first- or pseudo-first-order reaction mechanisms (see reaction scheme (6.IV)) catalytic, EC, and CE processes which are the most analyzed in the Electrochemistry literature. [Pg.390]

It is interesting that the product of the characteristic roots is the sum of the whole of the trees in the graph for this reaction mechanism [see eqns. (60) and (64)]. [Pg.41]

It can also be interpreted in terms of the bipartite graph for the reaction mechanism (see Sect. 1.3). [Pg.137]
