Distribution of metaiiiferous surface sediments in the ocean as indicated by the ratio Ai/(Ai + Fe + Mn). As these deposits are poor in aiuminum reiative to continentai detritus, their abundance is inverseiy proportionai to the vaiue of the ratio. Source-. From Bostrum, K. (1969). The Sr isotopes show high initial Sr /Sr ratios in chalcocites, consistent with a high Rb/Sr ratio source. These high ratios are typical of upper crustal rocks. The isotopic ratios in carbonates showed... [Pg.262]

Interpolations on mixtures of cream and skim milk from a single sample were apparently used to determine these averages. Such mixtures would have a constant ratio of each constituent of solids not-fat and would not apply to other samples (e.g., with a different protein/lactose ratio). source Data from Short (1955). [Pg.422]

Figure 12 Si02 versus MgO in coarse-grained CAIs from CV chondrites, compared with the condensation trajectory for a gas of solar composition at 10 atm. Note that type A CAIs lie along the condensation trajectory, but type B CAIs lie to the left of the trajectory. For more details on type A and B CAIs, see Chapter 1.08, by MacPherson. The CAI data have been corrected for nonrepresentative sampling of different minerals by correcting to the solar system Ca/Al ratio (sources Grossman et al., 2000 Simon et al., 2002). Figure 1 Helium isotope data from various mantle-derived volcanics. The upper axis is the He/ He ratio R) normalized to the atmospheric ratio Rj f. As indicated by the data for selected segments of the MORB away from ocean islands falls almost entirely within the range of (7-9)Ra- While there are hotspot basalts that are characterized by high U/Pb ratios and low He/ He ratios (HIMU), many major oceanic hotspots, as well as continental hotspots, have high He/" He ratios (source Porcelli and Ballentine, 2002). Figure 2 Neon isotope compositions of MORE and selected OIBs. The data generally fall on correlations that extend from air contamination to higher values that characterize the trapped mantle components. Islands with high He/" He ratios have lower-mantle Ne/ Ne ratios, reflecting high He/(U + Th) and Ne/(U + Th) ratios (source Graham, 2002). Figure 7 The variations of chloride, calcium, strontium (in mgL ), and Sr/ Sr ratios during intrusion of seawater into the coastal aquifer of Salinas Valley, California, USA. Note the linear relationships between all constituents, which indicates conservative mixing relationships between freshwater and modified seawater. These relationships suggest that base-exchange reactions occur at early stage of seawater intrusion and that Sr in exchange sites has a high Sr/ Sr ratio (source Vengosh et aL, 2002a). Failure mode ratio the probability expressed as a decimal fraction that the part or item will fell in the identified mode. Failure mode ratio source data may be operational historical data or analytical data from bench tests, field tests, simulations, or analyst judgment, based on analysis of the item s functions. Part failure rate the part feilure rate, per MIL-STD-1629A, is obtained from the appropriate reliability prediction. These predictions may exist in the System Design Document or in several industry-specific specifications. The specification instructs that application factors and environmental factors shall be used to illustrate differences in operating stresses. Many of these factors will be identified in the test and evaluation effort as the life cycle matures. [Pg.36]
