The essence of railway dynamics is the transfer of forces at the wheel rail interface. The energy from the motion of the train is taken up as elastic deformation in the track structure consisting of the rail, sleepers, dry crust, ballast and soil. The elastic response in the ground depends both in magnitude and characteristics on a number of parameters, e.g. train mass, suspension parameters, train geometry, rail irregularities and soil material characteristics (Ching, 2004).

Where roads or railways cross a pipeline, in addition to soil pressure, they are subject to further static and dynamic loads from passing vehicles. If the soil cover is less than 1.5 m, traffic loads dominate. For cross-country pipes under railway embankments or paved roads, it is possible to calculate soil pressure and traffic loads and hence the loads on the pipeline. The additional loads must be taken into account when determining the dimensions and properties of the pipes, and special measures may ultimately be necessary. 

Measurements were carried out to verify the non-linear calculation methods of longitudinal forces in long, high railway bridges. The practical and theoretical background of the tests is described. Specially chosen methods of loading and measuring the reaction of the structure are appointed to the separate static and dynamic problems.

Poly Hi Solidur Plastics India Limited [4] developed products for use on the Indian Railways based on ultra-high molecular weight PE (UHMWPE Hoechst s Hostalen GUR). The base polymer is mixed with patented additives and uses a computer controlled sintering process and sophisticated fabrication methods to produce a material which is claimed to have much higher values for a number of technically important properties such as wear, chemical and water resistance, impact strength and dynamic coefficient of friction. The growth of the market for UHMWPE products is briefly discussed, and the applications targeted by Poly Hi Solidur Plastics are discussed. 

On the basis of these previous studies, the present research takes Dengjiaping railway tunnel across Longmen Mountain central fault zone as an example, and attempts to further explore the dynamic response and stability of the tunnel in 3D real model by numerical method, with the focus on the different cross angles of tunnel to the active fault for the optimization of line selection.
