Pyrantel tartrate

Pyrantel exliibits absorption, distribution, biotransformation, and elimination profiles similar to those of morantel. Pyrantel tartrate is well absorbed with peak plasma levels occurring 2-3 h after dosing. In ruminants, urinary excretion accounts for about 25% of the administered dose, while much of the remainder passes unchanged in feces. However, the pamoate salt is very poorly absorbed, most of the dose being excreted in feces. [Pg.135]

Pyrantel tartrate has a somewhat higher safety factor than tetramisole, according to published accounts (see Table I), though neither approaches the high therapeutic index reported for thiabendazole. [Pg.147]

Pyrantel tartrate was described as a colorless crystalline material which is soluble in water (180 mg/ml). Solutions are sensitive to ultraviolet light, undergoing trans-cis isomerization upon prolonged exposure. Storage in dark bottles is sufficient to protect solutions against light-in-... [Pg.148]

New anthelmintic agents which are already in use in veterinary medicine have been found in two cyclic amidine derivatives, pyrantel tartrate (Banminth, Strongid) (269) and morantel tartrate (Banminth II) (270). For references concerning their evaluation in sheep, cattle, pigs, horses, dogs, and man see Ref. 260. These compounds are most probably prepared by condensation of the appropriate thiophen aldehyde with 1,4,5,6-tetra-hydro-l,2-dimethylpyrimidine. Extensive investigations on structure-... [Pg.423]
