Purchase-trend report—describes the quantity purchased of OTC products or prescription drug products by month or by quarter. 

In the past, long-term experience with a hmited number of coals partially compensated for an inability to quantitatively anticipate the behavior of the inorganic material in these coals. Current fuel purchasing trends require much more adept boiler operation.

It may be possible for a company to negotiate the purchase of a material at a cost per unit that is significantly lower than the current pubhshed price. This is particularly true if large quantities are involved. Thus, estimates should be presented for both minimum and maximum costs. Price trends, availabihty, and quality are other factors that should be considered. A knowledge of price trends is particularly important for a product that a company may not manufacture for sever years. 

While successbil and economical system designs can be devised by experienced process engineers, the competent technical aid available from equipment supphers has led to a growing trend toward the purchase of complete systems, even on small jobs, rather than iu-plaut assembly from components on the basis of in-house designs. An idea of the change in capital investment for typical pneumatic-conveyor systems as a function of increasing transfer rates is given in Table 21-12. 

Although motors and controllers can be bought separately, the trend is to purchase a system from a given manufacturer. There are six types oi variable-speed drives, as own in F ig. 29-73. Dynamic response indicates the ability of the drive to respond to a change in command it is measured in radians/second the higher the number, the faster the drive response. 

The teed to the cat cracker in a typical refinery is a blend of gas oils from such operating units as the crude, vacuum, solvent deasphalting, and coker. Some refiners purchase outside FCC feedstocks to keep the FCC feed rate maximized. Other refiners process atmospheric or vacuum residue in their cat crackers. In recent years, the trend has been toward heavier gas oils and residue. Residue is most commonly defined as the fraction of feed that boils above 1,050°F (565 C). Each FCC feed stream has different distillation characteristics. 

Some battery-producing companies prefer purchasing pure, nonamalgamated zinc powder to apply their own proprietary corrosion protection system. The general trend is to keep the anodes of all the consumer cells mercury-free (usually indicated by a "green label) and to make them disposable with the regular household trash. The exceptions to this rule are those cells where this makes no sense, such as cells with a mercuric oxide cathode. 

Apart from the actual purchase cost a business pays a supplier for a chemical, there are costs that are usually not considered. Happily there has been considerable development of approaches to Total Cost Assessments or environmental accounting, and the reader is strongly encouraged to seek out more information about how this is done. Application of Total Cost Assessment will provide a strategic view of trends that can directly affect the long-term viability of a process and is well worth the effort. 

Industry experts expect this trend to continue single operating units being purchased by owners of multiple plants, leading to a consolidation in the US. nuclear industry with sustainable skilled nuclear workforces, and with the most efficient existing operations well positioned for deregulation. 

This chapter will give an overview of recent international trends and initiatives regarding chemicals in leather and articles containing leather. That includes the identification of chemicals in the produced leather that are common on restricted substance lists and present ongoing recent initiatives to control the impact from these chemicals including both legislative measures and initiatives from customers such as international brands or purchasing sectors and different eco-labels. 

What has happened over the years has been an increasing trend in the industry to globalise. This means that the effect on a market at the other end of the world can have an impact on a domestic market. There are several reasons for this improved communications, multinational purchasing of caustic, more transparency, and, according to one producer, too many consultants. 

Unfortunately, positive trends could not be seen for the megacities in developing countries. The very low income of people only allows for the purchase and use of old vehicles with low technical standards (Nakamura et al., 2004). This is of major concern, in so far as half of the world population (48% in 2003) live in urban areas.

Companies hope that by increasing in size they can better manage downturns in the economy while continuing to produce new drugs. 

There has already been a notable trend in the past three or four years toward the utilization of propane and butane directly as motor fuel. In 1950 over 100,000 farm tractors (18) were converted to these fuels, and a number of urban bus operators announced the purchase of busses to be fueled with propane. It is felt, too, that the nonitinerant trucking operator will in many cases find it advantageous to convert to propane or butane when assured of engines that can take full advantage of the superior quality of these fuels, and once he realizes that an adequate supply can be had.
