Pumps diaphragm type

Lube oil pumps are typieally heavy-duty eentrifugal or positive displaeement type with a design eapaeity that eovers the full range of antieipated operation. They ean be either direet-driven by eleetrie motors or eoupled with disk or diaphragm-type eouplings. Experieneed turboexpander manufaeturers will supply motors and eouplings that are at least 25% oversized. 

As regards valves, diaphragm types are the most satisfactory but most valves have to withstand extremely turbulent conditions, and as with pumps, even the best designs need to be constructed of resistant materials, or be coated with a suitably durable material such as silastomer or neoprene. 

Current Development. Following success of the prototype IPU a second more comprehensive facility was commissioned. This is capable of up to four pumps of mixed peristalitic or diaphragm types, each linked to specific feed vessels on individual balances. The whole is interfaced to an IBM AT computer (see Figure 7) which in addition to Intelligent liquid additions, has the capacity to absorb modules from the work on temperature control and stirring in a full multi-tasking computer-assisted system, as mentioned above. 

If the pump is protected using a diaphragm-type pressure switch, then the pump will be switched on automatically. If a combination of roots pump and roughing pump is to convey highly volatile substances such as liquids with a low boiling point, then it is advisable to use a roots pump which is equipped with an integral bypass line and a valve which will respond to a pre-set pressure. Typically, the entire contents of a calcium hypochlorite container are emptied into a mixing tank where they are readily and completely dissolved in water. The resulting corrosive solution is stored in and fed from a stock solution vessel constructed of corrosion-resistant materials such as plastic, ceramic, glass, or rubber-lined steel. Solutions of 1% or 2% available chlorine can be delivered by a diaphragm-type, chemical feed pump or metering pump. 

The flow rate can be varied by modifying the cam rotation speed or the position of the piston/cam attachment and, hence, the pumped stroke. This kind of pump, especially the diaphragm-type pump, has often been used in microfluidic systems [27], The main drawbacks are the high purchase cost, flow rates typically in the nL min-1 range, the need for one pump per channel and the susceptibility to air locks and suspended particulate matter [15]. Flow reversal is not possible. 

Most pumps in HCl service are nonmetallic. Wetted parts may be PVC, CPVC, PP, PTFE, PVDF, FRP, ceramic, or carbon. Self-priming centrifugal pumps are a standard, but diaphragm-type metering pumps also are widely used. 

If the chlorate reactor is a vessel, a level control loop is necessary. The transmitter should be of the flush-diaphragm type with wetted parts of tantalum. The control valve, located in the pump discharge piping, should be fully lined with PTFE. The size of the system will determine the type of valve to be used. 

Adhesive used in dip applications shonld be kept under continuous agitation. If a dip tank is used, double diaphragm type circulating pumps are recommended and impeller type agitators shonld be nsed. 

In accordance with DIN 28 400 (Part 2) a dry compressing vacuum pump is a positive displacement vacuum pump which operates without an oil seal (as the liquid seal). A diaphragm vacuum pump is a dry compressing pump, a type of pump which chiefly has its role in connection with laboratory apphcations. Here the diaphragm vacuum pump replaces the universal laboratory water jet pumps, the water consumption of which and thus the high operating costs due to the generation of contaminated waste water are factors which are not desired.
