Pultrusion process applications

A high reactivity, chemically thickenable, unaccelerated polyester containing up to 28% recycle content which performs well with low profile additives and exhibits consistent lot-to-lot thickening. Finds RTM, wetmoulding and pultrusion processing application for truck panels, stmctural parts and general purpose use. [Pg.154]

Dow has developed a pultrusion simulation modeling (PSM) service designed to help fabricators achieve higher levels of productivity and reliability. Process variables such as pull speed, part and die temperature, heater output and pulling force can affect the quality of pultruded components. The PSM tool allows fabricators to predict processing performance for specific applications, and is accurate to within 10% of actual performance. The tool has been validated in customer trials and allows the pultrusion process to be optimized quickly. [Pg.344]

In other cases, the multi-channel system will offer new functionalities like integrated gas, fluid or power transport. A very interesting application in the building industry would be the use of the side channels for incorporating pultruded carbon composite rods. The carbon rods could be incorporated and fixed during the pultrusion process of the technical plant stem under a certain pre-tension load. The use of the technical plant stems as... [Pg.306]

The selection of a suitable thermoplastic matrix material mostly depends on the desired mechanical properties and the desired long-term service temperature. Depending on the application area, there are other decision criteria known from thermoset matrix materials, which can be of major interest, for example the chemical resistance or the water absorption properties. In contrast, thermoplastic composites are normally featured with an improved toughness compared to their thermoset competitors. Table 8.2 gives an overview on properties of different common polymers which are used for the pultrusion process. [Pg.212]

By means of the described technology properties, both processes are suitable for mass production. Nevertheless, there is a preferred field of application for both technologies. Unidirectional reinforcement fibers are best suited for the pultrusion process. In contrast, the CCM process is independent of the fiber orientation, thus it doesn t matter if unidirectional or multidirectional reinforcement materials are used. The assessment of the rates of production (= process speed) against the circumferences of the profiles, which are in contact with the tools surface (see Fig. 8.34), defines relevant process parameters and emphasizes the preferred field of application. Thus the circumference characterizes the profile shape. [Pg.238]

The process design consist of the solution of the master model and their application in the analysis of different case studies of the pultrusion process under different processing conditions in order to obtain general criteria for the optimization of the main process variables, scheduling of the temperature or pulling velocity and material management as formulations of content and types of resin and fibers. [Pg.130]

In this section, we will describe the application of the rheokinetic model to adiabatic and isothermal pultrusion by the RIP process. Adiabatic pultrusion is defined as a pultrusion... [Pg.60]
