Pullers, 94: controls

In this Fig. 8-41 view (a) the feeder-roll speed to puller-roll speed ratio can be set, such as 1 4, and simultaneously the ratio of width can be set as 1 4. The machined direction ratio is usually accomplished prior to the plastic s entering the temperature controlled oven that contains the tenter frame, by having it move around heat-controlled rolls where the rotational speed of the rolls increases from one roll to the next. View (b) is a schematic of the drawdown phenomenon with swell to produce orientation in the machined (longitudinal) direction. [Pg.485]

Since the mass-transfer coefficient at a micropipette is inversely proportional to its radius, the smaller the pipette the faster heterogeneous rate constants can be measured. Micrometer-sized pipettes are too large to probe rapid CT reactions at the ITIES. Such measurements require smaller (nm-sized) pipettes. Nanopipettes are also potentially useful as SECM tips (see Section IV.D) because they can greatly improve spatial resolution of that technique. The fabrication of nanopipettes was made possible by the use of a micro-processor-controlled laser pipette puller capable of puling quartz capillaries [26]. Using this technique, Wei et al. produced nanopipettes as small as 20 nm tip radius and employed them in amperometric experiments [9]. [Pg.389]

We use 100 pi glass capillary tubes (VWR international 53432-921) pulled by a horizontal micropipette puller (Sutter Instrument Co. Model P-97) for suctioning of adipose tissue. Suction strength is controlled by tip size which is typically 10-20 pm. [Pg.248]

This is an important area that has to be thoroughly analyzed and studied to obtain the desired performance of the complete line and/or its parts such as the injection mold, extruder puller, and so on. The first task is to determine what is required and how to approach any potential problem. Adequate PC and its associated instrumentation are essential for product control. Sometimes the goal is precise adherence to a control point, other times it is sufficient to maintain a control within a comparatively narrow range. For effortless controller tuning and lowest initial and operating cost, the processor should select the simplest controller (temperature, time, pressure, flow rate, etc. that will produce the desired results. For the complete line, they can range from unsophisticated to extremely sophisticated devices that interrelate information. As an example there is the computer Hosokawa Alpine... [Pg.168]

Movement of railcars and trucks within plants is frequently done by carrier crews. Since, however, plant production schedules and availability of railroad switch crews are often not compatible, many plants provide their own switching service. Specially built prime movers that can operate on both roads or rails are available. Front-end loaders can be equipped with couplers to permit car movement. Cable-operated car pullers are now generally in disfavor because of lack of control of cars being moved. Trailers are often moved by tractors especially equipped with an adjustable fifth-wheel coupling, which will couple to any trailer regardless of the height of its cou-pling. [Pg.1986]

Special requirements for warp knitting include the following (1) a device is required for proper density and even tension of elastomeric yams in producing elastomeric fabrics with repeatable results in stretch, recovery, modulus, shrinkage, and elastic fiber content (2) yam let-off must be electronic or electromechanical for best fabric control and reproducibility (3) special selvage holders (pullers), fabric hot-wire slitters. [Pg.65]

Pultrusion is a simple technique which is employed mostly for fabrication of products based on unsaturated polyester resins (or other resins like epoxy, vinyl ester) and continuous strand mats (fibre or fabric). A pultrusion machine consists of creel for supplying fibre, a resin tank, forming dies, machined dies with a temperature control facility, a puller and a saw for cutting the product from a continuous composite product. The continuous strand mats are passed through a bath containing a mixture of resin and curatives. In the resin bath, the fibre is passed through a series of rods to remove entrapped air and excess resin to ensure complete wetting of the fibre. [Pg.294]

By use of the Narashige horizontal puller according to the manufacturer s instructions, with all controls set to maximum values, the outside diameter of the resulting needles is reduced from 1 mm to 200-300 //m over about 2 mm of length it then tapers to 10 //m or so over the next 5-6 mm. Although needles can be produced... [Pg.90]

Srinivasagupta and Kardos (2004) developed an algorithm for economical design of the IP process, subject to controllability considerations. The multiobjective approach was able to determine the optimal values of the processing parameters such as heating zone temperatures and resin injection pressure, as well as the equipment spedfications (die dimensions, heater, puller and pump ratings) that satisfy the various objectives in a weighted sense. [Pg.399]
