Norzooanemonin (161) was isolated in 1973 by Weinheimer et al. (227), from the Caribbean bark coral Pseudopterogorgia americana. These authors confirmed structure 161 by synthesis. Methylation of imidazole-4-carboxy-lic acid with dimethyl sulfate yielded 85% norzooanemonin, identical to the natural product. [Pg.321]

Brief description This species is <1 m tall. Its side branches may be pinnate (paired on opposite sides of the main branches) but often are not pinnate. The distinguishing features of Pseudopterogorgia elisabethae are its short, stout branchlets, large, moderately pointed scaphoids with nearly or quite smooth convex surface, and large anthocodial rods. It is moderately slimy, but not as much as is the case with Pseudopterogorgia americana. The colonies may be either yellow or purple. [Pg.367]

Chan and coworkers [23] and Izac et al. [24] isolated germacrenes derivatives, 13-19, as the major secondary metabolites from Pseudopterogorgia americana. Izac et al. [24] and Chan [23] isolated the new elemanolide 18 and elemanolide 19, respectively along with C2 and C5 hydroxylated germacrenes. [Pg.160]

Another metabolite isolated from the specie, Pseudopterogorgia americana, is corallan, 39, the chemistry of which was investigated by Molchanova and coworkers [29], Corallan, 39, a sulphated glycoprotein contains D-glucose, D- and L-galactoses, D-arabinose, L-flicose and D-glucoronic acid. Some structural features of the polysaccharide moiety of 39 are shown in scheme 3. [Pg.163]

The eggs of Pseudopterogorgia americana contained lipids, with cetyl palmitate as the major product, glycerides, and sterols (i.e. mainly cholesterol). For more details see Wirahadikusumah [46]. [Pg.170]
