Arylpropionic acids are important class of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID). Their pharmacological activity is mainly in one of both enantiomers. Thus, efforts had been made to access to the enantiomerically pure substance. The kinetic resolution of racemic 2-(2-fluoro-4-biphenyl) propanoic acid 56 and 2(4-isobutylphenyl) propanoic acid 59 (Ibuprofen) was performed via enzymatic esterification and transesterification using an alcohol and vinyl acetate, respectively in a membrane reactor. The unreacted acid is obtained in highly enantiomerically enriched form. A consecutive approach consisting of the enzymatic hydrolysis of the resulted esters is needed to achieve the alcohol in optically pure form.77... [Pg.212]

It is not necessary to isolate the allyl vinyl ether as long as some of it is formed and rearranges into the final product. The acid catalyst usually used, propanoic acid, has a conveniently high boiling point so that the whole mixture can be equilibrated at high temperature. The first step is an acetal exchange in which the allylic alcohol displaces methanol. [Pg.945]

Treatment of alkenylboranes with carboxylic acids at room temperature or, in the case of more hindered alkenylboranes, with hot propanoic acid results in the selective cleavage of the vinylic B-C bond with retention of configuration ... [Pg.197]

Porphyrins. Collective name derived from Greek porphyra=purple, purple snail, for the widely distributed purple (red) natural pigments formally prepared from the parent skeleton of porphine by substitution of the macrocylic tetrapyrrole framework with methyl, vinyl, acetic acid, propanoic acid units, or other substituents. [Pg.509]

It is possible to introduce cholesterol moiety into the hydrogen bonded complexes of rodlike mesogens to obtain multifunctional properties. For example, hydrogen bonded complex 21 formed by a non-gelator molecule 3-cholesteryl 4-(trans-2-(4-pyridinyl)vinyl)phenyl succinate 19 and a counterpart 3-cholesteryloxycarbonyl-propanoic acid 20 can simultaneously possess gelator and liquid crystal properties, and this may lead to the development of new multifunctional materials [43]. [Pg.138]

Similarly, 2,3-dihydro-l,4-dioxin can be lithiated at a vinylic position with either n-BuLi at 0 °C or t-BuLi at -30 to -20 °C [43a], Related benzocondensed systems 54 were lithiated with LDA at -78 °C to give the dianionic intermediates 55, which were converted into lactones 56 upon successive reaction with acetaldehyde and propanoic acid [49] (Scheme 2.9). [Pg.15]
