Project management levels

These meetings have been organised on the project management level in order to discuss and to agree with some important decisions and with the needed mitigation activities, related to the munber of problems... 

Although a single project manager may direct activities throughout a project life, he or she will normally be supported by a project team whose oomposition should reflect the type of project and the experience levels of both company and contractor personnel. The make up and size of the team may change over the life of a project to match the prevailing activity levels in each particular section of the project. 

What Support or Resources They Can Expect. You should consider in advance what the design team s resource needs might be and how you can address them realistically. For example, if funds exist for travel, outside consulting services, or project management software, these maybe useful expenditures. Similarly, administrative support can expedite the team s efforts. Whatever the level of support your company can provide, if s important to make it clear if you must undertake systems design as a bare-bones effort, the team needs to know it in advance to avoid unrealistic expectations. 

Project management also influences the likelihood that staffing levels wiU be adequate for the tasks required. This latter factor, together with the extent to which appropriate jobs are assigned to individuals, and the complexity of the jobs, all influence the level of time pressure likely to be felt by the operator. The detailed calculations, which show how the probability of human error is influenced by changes in the sociotechnical factors in the situation, are given in Appendix 5A. 

Gantt charts are limited in their ability to show the interdependencies of activities. In projects where the steps flow in a simple sequence of events, they can portray adequate information for project management. However, when several steps are under way at the same time and a high level of interdependency exists among the various steps, PERT diagrams are a better choice.

Most large computer companies have canned programs for PERT, CPM, and manpower leveling for sale.Such programs are a necessity for a project manager. 

The significance of the exposure levels shown in the tables and figures may differ depending on the user s perspective. For example, physicians concerned with the interpretation of clinical findings in exposed persons may be interested in levels of exposure associated with "serious" effects. Public health officials and project managers concerned with appropriate actions to take at hazardous waste sites may want information on levels of exposure associated with more subtle effects in humans or animals (LOAEL) or exposure levels below which no adverse effects (NOAEL) have been observed. Iterations and increments must have clear objectives or else they can become a euphemism for structured hacking. Increments should be planned at multiple levels, from end-user increments to those that are internal to the development team or visible and demonstrated up to the project manager. Packages and their import relations are used to plan iterations and increments. 

Sponsor The person who approves and pays for the project. This is generally a management-level person such as a plant manager or technical director, often in the line management of the customer.
