Professional endeavors

The author would like to thank his friends and colleagues for their help and encouragement in this endeavor and for creating a professional environment that demanded the development of this manual. He would also like to thank the staff of CRC Press, particularly Drew Gierman, for his patience and diligence in the production of this work. 

NOTE In regard to the question of application of the Code to corporations vis-i-vis real persons, business form or type should not negate nor influence conformance of individuals to the Code. The Code deals with professional services, which services must be perfoimed by real persons. Real persons in turn establish and implement policies within business structures. The Code is clearly written to apply to the Engineer and items incumbent on members of NSPE to endeavor to live up to its provisions. This applies to all pertinent sections of the Code. 

The assessment of human cancer risk associated with a substance is a complicated scientific endeavor requiring careful review of all pertinent information by professionals. Such assessment involves primarily the evaluation of clinical, epidemiological, and animal studies as well as short-term tests, structure activity, comparative metabolism pharmacokinetics, and mechanism of action when possible. 

This work would not have been possible without the support, financial and moral, of these efforts by the National Science Foundation. That so many of the coauthors in my references are now independently professionally active in research attests to the excitement of these research endeavors. 

Because HS AM is a hi ly sophisticated and complex endeavor, many company administrators and regulatory officials are seeking highly trained and professionally educated personnel to fill positions in this area. Thus, companies and government agencies have acquired an interest in the continuing education of employees and students. It was also in the spirit of responding to this particular concern that this book was undertaken. 

The exact etiology of eyelid margin disease remains poorly understood, making the diagnosis and treatment a frustrating endeavor for both the patient and the eye care professional. Blepharitis in most forms has no cure, and treatment is meant to quell the acute phase only. 

The quality of abstracts is determined in part by the kind of abstractors used. CA endeavors to have each abstract made by an individual who is well informed as far as the subject matter and language of the assigned paper or patent are concerned. With a small group of full-time professional abstractors this would not be possible. 

UNR s inclusive, collaborative assessment endeavors produced ample opportunities for faculty to develop collegiality. Broad (2003) explained that criteria mapping "offers tremendous potential for writing instructors professional growth and feeling of professional community" (121). Stalions... 

The history of science remained under the auspices of scientists until the establishment of the field as a distinct professional activity in middle of the twentieth century. As academic historians assumed control of history of science writing, they expended enormous energies in the attempt to forge a distinct and autonomous discipline. By presenting statistical analysis in a meaningful, integrated, and relevant manner, our students knowledge and retention of the material is markedly improved. Moreover, their understanding and appreciation of the discipline of Statistics in all of their future scientific endeavors (both academically while studying, and professionally once in the workforce) is considerably enhanced. This book will become the text for the first of two Statistics courses in our Master of Science in Clinical Research program. 

To our mentors, whose vision provided educational and training programs that encouraged our professional growth and challenged us to be innovators in our patient care, research, and educational endeavors.
