Economic Aspects. U.S. production statistics for the period 1980 to 1988 are given ia Table 4 (220). Exports amount to ca 20% of annual United States production, and imports amount to almost 10% of domestic production. The main foreign producers are Japan, South Africa, and Canada. South Korea, Brazil, and The People s RepubHc of China are minor producers. Japan s Nippon Soda Co., Ltd. is the world s third largest producer. Two other Japanese producers are Toyo Soda Co., Ltd., and Nankai Chemical Industry, Ltd. 

Production. Worldwide cocoa bean production has increased significantly over the past 10 years from approximately 1.6 million t in the 1979—1980 crop year to over 2.4 million t in 1990. The production share by country has also changed dramatically in the last 10 years. The big gainers are Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Ivory Coast. The large gains in Malaysia and Indonesia have helped to diversify production and partially shield the market from adverse weather-induced supply shocks. The biggest losers in production share have been Brazil and Ghana. Table 2 Hsts production statistics for these countries.

As of 2008, large reserves of bauxite were found in Australia, China, Brazil, Guinea, Jamaica, Russia, and Venezuela. Bauxite production statistics for the United States were not reported to protect trade secrets. 

Boron never occurs as a free element but always as a compound. The most common minerals of boron are borax, or sodium borate (Na2B407) kernite (another form of sodium borate) colemanite, or calcium borate (Ca2B< Oii) and ulexite, or sodium calcium borate (NaCaB509). These minerals usually occur as white crystalline deposits in desert areas. As of 2008, Turkey was the largest producer of boron ore. Other major producers of boron materials are Argentina, Chile, Russia, China, Bolivia, and Kazakhstan. Production statistics for the United States were not released in order to protect trade secrets. 

Chemical and Engineering News. A weekly publication of the American Chemical Society. It gives the financial condition for over 100 various chemical companies, the production rates for large-volume chemicals, foreign trade statistics, and world production statistics for selected chemicals. 

Germany. The Statistisches Bundesamt, the federal West German statistical office, publishes statistics in Die Industrie der Bundesrepublik 30), Part I gives monthly statistics of employment and unemployment, hours and wages, and fuel and electricity supplies and consumption by individual industries. Part II gives monthly production statistics for mining, fuel and power, and the main industries. Chemicals included are sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, chlorine, caustic soda, synthetic ammonia. 

An analysis of the trends in U.S. production statistics for sodium silicates from the early 20th century to date is shown in Figure 1. It suggests a macro growth pattern in volume of roughly 10 million kg/year...

Anelli et al. (1971) studied 27 cultivars of plum grown in Tuscany, Italy. The oil was extracted from the dried seeds in a soxhlet apparatus with petroleum ether. The oil content of the dry seeds ranged from 25 to 53%. Neubeller and Buchloh (1970) reported an oil content of 44% in plum seeds and Luthra et al. (1980) reported 31% oil on the dry basis. Kamel and Kakuda (1992) report similar values and give production statistics for Canada and the United States. 

Nowadays, the main producer countries are reported to be China, Brazil, Philippines, India, South Korea and Thailand, but the available statistics are not reliable. This is because production statistics for ramie are included in the Fibre Crops NES (Not Elsewhere Specified) in the official FAO Production Statistics (FAO 1995). Ramie usage in the US increased in the mid-1980s with the emphasis of fashion on natural fibres.
