The Hysomer process produces an increase of about 12 octane numbers in suitable naphtha feedstocks. The process can be operated in conjunction with the Isosiv process (Union Carbide Corp.) for the separation of normal and isoparaffins, achieving complete isomerization of a C-5—C-6 stream. The combined process is trade named TIP (total isomerization process), and results in increases in octane numbers of about 20, rather than the 12 obtained with a once-through Hysomet treatment. [Pg.458]

The IsoSiv process is an isobaric, isothermal adsorption technique used to separate n-paraffins from gas oils. The operation conditions are approximately 370°C and 100 psi. Desorption is achieved using n-pentane or n-hexane. The solvent is easily distilled from the heavier n-paraffins and then recycled. [Pg.53]

A vapor phase process for deparaffmization of light gas oils performed by the BP works in this way The gas oil, boiling range 230-320°C, is passed over a 5-A molecular sieve at 320°C and a pressure of 3.6 bar. The space velocity is 0.63 vol liquid gas oil per vol molecular sieve and per hour, [liquid hourly space velocity (lhsv) = 0.63] the adsorption period takes 6 min. Together with the gas oil vapor 120 vol N2 per vol liquid gas oil is led over the sieve as carrier and purge gas. After the adsorption period the loaded molecular sieve is purged at the same temperature with pure N2 for 6 min. Subsequently, the adsorbed /z-alkanes are desorbed by 1 vol liquid /z-pentane per vol molecular sieve and per hour. The /z-pentane is recovered from the /z-alkane//z-pentane mixture by simple distillation [15]. The IsoSiv process of the Union Carbide Corporation works in a similar way [16]. The purity of the isolated /z-alkanes is >98%. [Pg.8]

IsoSiv [Isomer separation by molecular sieves] A process for separating linear hydrocarbons from naphtha and kerosene petroleum fractions. It operates in the vapor phase and uses a modified 5A zeolite molecular sieve, which selectively adsorbs linear hydrocarbons, excluding branched ones. Developed by Union Carbide Corporation and widely licensed, now by UOP. The first plant was operated in Texas in 1961. By 1990, more than 30 units had been licensed worldwide. OlefinSiv A process for isolating isobutene from a mixture of C4-hydrocarbons by chromatography over a zeolite molecular sieve. Developed by the Linde Division of the Union Carbide Corporation, as one of its IsoSiv family of processes. [Pg.195]

An integrated process which combines light paraffin isomerization, using a zeolite catalyst, with the IsoSiv process, which separates the unconverted normal paraffins so that they can be returned to the reactor. Union Carbide s OlefinSiv Process. Union Carbide s OlefinSiv process is used mainly to separate n-butylenes from isobutylene 31). The basic hardware is the same as for the IsoSiv process for n-paraffin separation, and the process uses a rapid cycle, fixed-bed adsorption. Since this process separates straight-chain olefins from branched-chain olefins, it is reasonable to assume that a 5A molecular sieve is used as the adsorbent. LP mordenite doped with platinum is the catalyst used in the Shell Hysomer process for alkane hydroisomerization this can be linked to the Isosiv separation process whereby -/n-alkanes are separated on LTA zeolite. This link is the basis of the joint Shell/UOP Total Isomerization Process (TIP). Similar catalysts have been employed to hydrocrack (i.e. dewax) diesel fuels.
