Priorities bridges

The orbitals and electrons of any particular boron atom are allocated to satisfy, as first priority, the requirements of the external B-H single bonds and the bridge B-H-B bonds. The remaining orbitals and electrons are allocated to the skeletal molecular orbitals of the boron framework.

This is possible because the C-N bond of an amide has partial double-bond character, as to a lesser extent does the C-O bond to the bridge oxygen in an ester. The XH NMR spectrum shows bands in the region 4.0-6.0 ppm (See Table 6). While in the neutral structure 33 and 34 the competition is between aromatic and nonaromatic structures, in the respective dianions the competition is between nonaromatic and antiaromatic structures (Fig. 9). From the spectroscopic parameters, i.e., chemical shifts and coupling constants of the bridge protons it can be concluded that the neutral systems are best represented by structures with an aromatic skeleton connected to a virtually isolated double bond. In the charged systems, viz. 332 and 342 it seems that a nonaromatic path of conjugation is preferred to an antiaromatic path (Fig. 9). These considerations are also reflected in the carbon chemical shifts and in their HOMO-LUMO gap (AE) (vide infra) 122). It can be concluded from all these observations that there is a tendency of aromatic systems to remain so and to avoid as much as possible paratropic antiaromatic contributions.

The current research priorities include elucidation of the in vivo function of proteins such as CD and CP that need not involve cross-bridge cycling, and resolving the physiological relevance of the experimental situations in which LC20 phosphorylation does not explain contraction. Another potentially fertile topic is identification of mechanisms that modulate MLCK and MLCP activities and, of equal importance, establishing their in vivo significance.

For each priority biomarker, the amount of biofluid and/or tissue biopsy samples needed should be precalculated.
