The Department of Energy (DOE) Fundamentals Handbooks consist of ten academic subjects, which include Mathematics Classical Physics Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer, and Fluid Flow Instrumentation and Control Electrical Science Material Science Mechanical Science Chemistry Engineering Symbology, Prints, and Drawings and Nuclear Physics and Reactor Theory. The handbooks are provided as an aid to DOE nuclear facility contractors.

Materials in a colloidal state are frequently preferred in industrial processing operations because their large surface areas per unit volume enhance chemical reactivity, adsorptive capacity, heat transfer rates, and so on. Therefore, one cannot overlook the importance of the flow behavior and properties of colloids since they exert a significant influence on the performance, efficiency, and economy of the process. VOC emissions from printing and chemical plants are oxidized in reverse flow reactors that couple reaction with regenerative heat transfer. The concept here is to maintain a catalyst zone in the center of a packed bed with inert heat-transfer packing on either side.
