Expression Dewaterings of Fibrous Materials. Fibrous materials are frequently dewatered in belt-filter, screw, disk, and roU presses and in batch pot and cage presses. Table 1 Hsts appHcations of screw, roU, and pot presses. Screw and high pressure belt presses are continuous and have replaced batch pot and cage presses in most appHcations. Traditionally, however, batch presses have been used for squee2ing cocoa butter from cocoa beans, which require pressures up to 41 MPa (6000 psi) (39). Designed to hold small round or square parts that are to be tapped lengthwise, this fixture grips or releases them by merely moving a cam lever. The body is a piece of tool steel which has two holes drilled an inch or so from each end, after which it is slotted as indicated. The body is mounted on a steel base with a heavy cap screw run through a third hole drilled at the rear end. A hole at the split end takes a bolt which has a lever cam on one end and a lock nut on the other. Another shear test was developed and used by Herrmann. Figure 46 is a schematic representation. The apparatus was conceived such that briquettes produced under vacuum in an experimental piston press could be tested within the vacuum chamber, where (1) is the lower (press) piston and (8) is the upper piston. Commercial TiCo, 6 and Cr3C2 powders, both with an average size of 5 fim, were used as raw materials. To densify TiC at a temperature of 1573 K, which is lower than the melting point (1670 K) of the metal phase (NisAl), three different amounts of Cr3C2 were added, such that a nearly dense TiC/Ni3Al FGM sample could be prepared by hot pressing. A mold basically consists of an upper and lower half. In the normal course of events, the lower half is clamped to the press table, and the top part is attached to the press force. The guidance of both mold halves to each other is ensured by appropriately hardened guide elements. Asymmetric part geometry can induce considerable compressive forces into the guide elements.
