Power spectrum analysis

To measure the strength of the forces exerted on particles, various analytical techniques have been developed [6, 7]. Unfortunately, since most of these techniques are based on hydrodynamics, assumption of the potential profiles is required and the viscosities of the fiuid and the particle sizes must be precisely determined in separate experiments, for example, using the viscous flow technique [8,9] and power spectrum analysis of position fluctuation [10]. Furthermore, these methods provide information on ensemble averages for a mass of many particles. The sizes, shapes, and physical and chemical properties of individual particles may be different from each other, which will result in a variety of force strengths. Thus, single-particle... [Pg.117]

The nerve axon sodium channel was studied in detail (in fact, as shown by the power spectrum analysis, there are two sorts of this channel one with fast opening and slow inactivation and the other with opposite properties). It is a glycoprotein consisting of three subunits (Fig. 6.22), the largest (mol. wt. 3.5 X 105) with a pore inside and two smaller ones (mol.wt 3.5 X 104 and 3.3 X 104). The attenuation in the orifice of the pore is a kind of a filter... [Pg.469]

This peak power occurs when redshifts are corrected for the solar motion with respect to our galactic center. Figure 1. The basic mathematical method for power spectrum analysis is the Fourier transformation. By the way. transient fluctuation can be expressed as the sum of the number of simple harmonic waves, which is helpful for understanding fluctuation. A frequency spectrum analysis for pressure signals can yield a profile of the frequencies and that of the amplitude along the frequencies. The basic equation of Fourier transformation can be expressed as... [Pg.239]

The results of power spectrum analysis show that the major fluctuation is concentrated in the range of frequencies < 1000 Hz while at higher frequency range the fluctuation has lower energy and there are some lower peaks in the acoustic wave range. [Pg.250]

Stolls work (55) on sinusoidal inputs of C02 fraction in inspired air is mentioned because it provides data for the testing of existing and future models. Such tests have suggested that nonlinearities and spontaneous periodicities (assessed by harmonic analysis and power spectrum analysis) are not severe enough to preclude linear analysis. [Pg.295]

The computer technique of power spectrum analysis was used to analyze frequency changes induced by d-amphetamine and mefenorex (II) [Ro4-5282] in the EEG of the cat. Unlike amphetamine, mefenorex did not antagonize the EEG depressant effects of sodium pentobarbital in anesthetized cats, suggesting that mefenorex is less stimulating than amphetamine.13 However, recent clinical studies report ONS stimulation in addition to the usual side effects. 5... [Pg.48]
