Multiple connectivity, power

Some fluid power systems are equipped with manifolds in the pressure supply and/or return lines. A manifold is a fluid conductor that provides multiple connection ports. Manifolds eliminate piping, reduce joints, which are often a source of leakage and conserve space. For example, manifolds may be used in systems that contain several... [Pg.627]

Si02—The Power of Multiple Connectivity of Atoms We started with Si and O, which are quadruple and double connectors, respectively, and we proceeded to construct from them molecules. We showed that the multiple connectivities of the two atoms form a basis for generating many, many possible molecules. Initially, we made the simplest 0=Si=0 molecule and then gradually proceeded to the giant covalent molecule that makes the sand of the earth and the raw material for glass making. [Pg.80]

If a delta/wye connected power transformer is installed between the power source and the load, the power factor at the transformer input generally will reflect the average PF of the loads on the secondary. This conclusion works on the assumption that the low PF is caused by inductive and capacitive reactances in the loads. However, if the load current is rich in harmonics from rectifiers and switching regulators, some of the harmonic currents will flow no farther toward the power source than the transformer delta winding. The third harmonic and multiples of three will flow in the delta winding and will be significantly reduced in amplitude. By this means, the transformer will provide some improvement in the PF of the total load. [Pg.1183]

For current consoHdation, the basic circuits, used at each of the multiple power take-off points, are stacked into a Christmas tree topology to form a single power take-off terminal pair. Scale-up of these devices to commercial sizes is not expected to be a problem, as standard electrical components are available for all sizes considered. A different type of consoHdation scheme developed (117), uses dc to ac converters to connect the individual electrodes to the consoHdation point. The current from each electrode can be individually controUed by the converter, which can either absorb energy from or deHver energy to the path between the electrode and the consoHdation point. This scheme offers the potential capabiHty of controlling the current level of each electrode pair. [Pg.434]

Flexibility of service and fuels are criteria, which enhance a turbine system, but they are not necessary for every application. The energy shortage requires turbines to be operated at their maximum efficiency. This flexibility may entail a two-shaft design incorporating a power turbine, which is separate and not connected to the Gasifier unit. Multiple fuel applications are now in greater demand, especially where various fuels may be in shortage at different times of the year. [Pg.15]

The design of a connector is a fairly straightforward process. It is easily illustrated with the example of a two-element connector of the type that may be used for either a power connection or to plug in an audio system. However multiple-element (32 and over) are extensively used. The... [Pg.225]

Molecular weight analysis by MS is an essential analytical tool for the determination of disulfide connectivities of multiple-cystine peptides. MS analysis is applied in all the methods described above. Three types of MS analyses are presently used, FAB-MS, MALDI-MS, and ES-MS. The related methodology is developing rapidly and thus continuously increasing the analytical power of these techniques. [Pg.174]

Balbuena et al. also conducted simulations at various water concentrations for various water contents (Fig. 8). At low water contents (A = 5), small water clusters are almost not connected with each other (Fig. 8a). At a very high water concentration (A. = 45), water forms a continuous phase (Fig. 8c). When A. is about 24, close to the amount in fully hydrated Nation membranes at room temperature, the interface is defined by a semi-continuum water film (Fig. 8b) where some water clusters with diameters of about 1 nm are interconnected by multiple water bridges. The average water density in this phase is estimated to be about 0.682 g cnr3, a much lower value than that of the bulk water phase at 353 K. These observations provide very valuable information for further investigating the OER and really highlight the power of atomistic simulations on the research topics for which currently existing experimental tools are lack of the resolutions in spatial and temporal scales. [Pg.335]

FT/ICR experiments have conventionally been carried out with pulsed or frequency-sweep excitation. Because the cyclotron experiment connects mass to frequency, one can construct ("tailor") any desired frequency-domain excitation pattern by computing its inverse Fourier transform for use as a time-domain waveform. Even better results are obtained when phase-modulation and time-domain apodization are used. Applications include dynamic range extension via multiple-ion ejection, high-resolution MS/MS, multiple-ion simultaneous monitoring, and flatter excitation power (for isotope-ratio measurements). [Pg.21]
