Only anhydrous potassium selenides have been considered. [Pg.422]

To 375 cc. (4.3 moles) of hydrochloric acid (sp. gr. 1.18) and 200 g. of ice is added 139.6 g. (1.5 moles) of aniline. The resulting solution is diazotized with a solution of 103.5 S (x-5 moles) of c. p. sodium nitrite, ice being added to the reaction mixture, as necessary, in order to keep the temperature below 50. The final volume of the diazotized solution is about 1 1. This solution is added in a slow stream from a dropping funnel to the potassium selenide solution, which is being vigorously stirred with a mechanical stirrer. When all the diazotized solution has been added, the red aqueous solution is decanted from the dark oil which forms and is heated to boiling (Note 4). It is then poured back on the oil, the mixture is well stirred (Note 5), 200 cc. of chloroform is added, and the selenium collected on a filter and washed with a little more chloroform (Note 6). After the chloroform layer is separated, the aqueous layer is again... [Pg.27]

Selenodiglycollic p-toluidide may be prepared from diseleno-diglycollic p-toluidide, or by treating chloraceto-p-toluidide with potassium selenide. The product melts at 217° to 218° C., is soluble in alcohol or hot acetic acid, sparingly soluble in chloroform or benzene, insoluble in water. Selenoxal-p-toluidide separates from dilute alcohol in long, red needles, M.pt. 165° to 166° C., soluble in alcohol, acetic acid, chloroform or benzene, insoluble in water. [Pg.67]

Facile synthesis of macrocycles 234 and 235 containing a phosphine oxide group and selenium atoms was recently developed <2001J(P1)1140>. Pulverized Se(0) was reduced with KBH4 in absolute alcohol to produce a mixture of potassium selenide and potassium diselenide, which reacted with 232 to give a mixture of diselenaphosphoninone 235 and selenaphosphocinone 234. [Pg.932]

A facile synthetic method for a series of macrocycles containing a phosphine oxide group and two selenium atoms was published < 2001J(P 1)1140>. Macrocycles 263 were obtained by a one-pot reaction from 235, which was generated in situ by the previously described procedure from a mixture of potassium selenide and potassium diselenide and dibromides 232. Without isolation, diselenide 235 was treated with potassium borohydride and sodium hydroxide to form a diselenide anion 262, which was allowed to react with various dibromides to give macrocycles 263 with moderate yields. [Pg.933]

Potassium selenides.—The monoselenide, K2Se, is formed by the action of selenium on excess of potassium dissolved in liquid ammonia with excess of selenium the tetraselenide, KjSe is produced.3 Each compound resembles the corresponding sodium derivative. With solutions of potassium carbonate, hydrogen selenide reacts forming a number of hydrates of the monoselenide. The heat of formation of the anhydrous mono-derivative is given as 79-4 Cal.4 The triselenide has been isolated,5 and Fabre has also described the primary selenide, KSeH. [Pg.177]

Selenetane is a pungent liquid obtained in low yield by treating 1,3-dibromo-propane with sodium selenide. Substituted selenetanes have been obtained by treatment of 1,3-dihalopropanes (e.g., 644) with potassium selenide or the cyclic monocarbonate of pentaerythritol with potassium selenocyanate. 3-Hydroxyselenetane 645 [ H nmr 5 3.6 (7=5.8) (H ) 3.85 (OH), 3.9-4.2(m) (H )ppm] is obtained by electrolysis in a diaphragm cell of chloromethyloxirane (epichlorohydrin) in the presence of selenium powder. It is also obtained by treatment of l,3-dibromo-2-propanol with NaSeH. Tetravalent, four-membered selenuranes are formed by treatment of 3,3-dimethylselentane with bromine at low temperature, and by treatment of the 1,1-dibromoselenetane... [Pg.670]
