Positional information

Dynamical simulations monitor time-dependent processes in molecular systems in order to smdy their structural, dynamic, and thennodynamic properties by numerically solving an equation of motion, which is the formulation of the rules that govern the motion executed by the molecule. That is, molecular dynamics (MD) provides information about the time dependence and magnitude of fluctuations in both positions and velocities, whereas the Monte Carlo approach provides mainly positional information and gives only little information on time dependence. [Pg.39]

By using the positional information available from a proximity probe, another valuable parameter can be measured. The axial position or axial shift detection can be added to the monitored information. Probes are generally installed at the shaft end in pairs to provide redundancy. For example, as the control signal increases, a valve inside the positioner admits more supply air to the actuator. As a result, the control valve moves downward. The linkage transmits the valve position information back to the positioner. This forms a small internal feedback loop for the actuator. Although the Fourier compression method can be effective for reducing data into frequency components, it cannot effectively handle situations where the dominant frequency components vary as a function of position in the spectrum.
