Polymeric films homogeneous

The electrochemical oxidation of monomers such as pyrrole,2-5 thiophene,6-9 aniline,10-13 etc., or their derivatives, initiates a polymerization process at the electrode/electrolyte interface that promotes the formation of a polymeric film that adheres to the electrode. A similar homogeneous polymerization process can be initiated by chemical oxidation or chemical polymerization.14-21 Some monomers can be polymerized as well by electrochemical or chemical reduction. [Pg.314]

Membranes can be homogeneous, where the whole membrane participates in the permeation of a substance, or heterogeneous, where the active component is anchored in a suitable support (for solid membranes) or absorbed in a suitable diaphragm or acts as a plasticizer in a polymeric film. Both of the latter cases are connected with liquid membranes. Biological membranes show heterogeneity at a molecular level. [Pg.422]

Another type of reactor that may have considerable future potential for use in homogeneous catalytic reactions is called the membrane reactor. These reactors have been successfully used for the commercialization of manufacturing processes based on enzyme catalysis. In fact, 75% of the global production of l-methionine is performed in an enzyme reactor. A membrane is basically an insoluble organic polymeric film that can have variable thickness. The catalyst... [Pg.42]

Surfactants have been added to coating formulations to improve substrate wettability, facilitate spreading of the polymeric material on the surface of the sub-strate, " and homogenize the coating mixtures. Various polymer properties may be affected by the addition of surfactants to polymeric film coatings. Lindholm et for example, showed faster drug... [Pg.1734]

Homogeneous films, in contrast, are solid polymeric substances through which the analyte gas passes by dissolving in the membrane, diffusing, and then de-solvating into the internal solution. Silicone rubber is the most widely used material for construction of these films. Homogeneous films are generally thinner than microporous membranes (0,01 to 0.03 mm) to hasten the transfer of gas and thus the rate of response of the system. [Pg.678]

With a different ferroelectric LC-polymer it was even possible to obtain very homogenous FS-films of thicknesses of only 6 to 16 layers as determined by both optical and X-ray reflectometry (5polymeric films contained a small fraction of polymerizable mesogenic side-groups, it was even possible to photocrosslink these systems. It should be mentioned that in this first case the crosslinking caused some changes in film morphology, but the resulting films are very stable and do not even break when small holes are formed by mechanical stress (JS),... [Pg.450]

However, the fact that just within 4 years of the first report on polyelectrolyte multilayer films, homogeneous large area light emitting diodes have been described, has produced considerable enthusiasm towards applications (especially in the field of light emitting diodes) of these layered polymeric nanoheterostructures. [Pg.456]

At polymer-coated electrodes where redox species are confined in the polymeric film, electron transport involves a heterogeneous electron transfer reaction between the electrode and the electroactive species confined to the polymer film as well as the homogeneous electron transport within the polymer film . The homogeneous electron transport in the film is thought to occur either by electronic conduction by electron exchange between redox couples (Fig. 12a), or by physical diffusion of electroactive species itself (Fig. 12b). [Pg.168]

Distribute homogeneously the microcapsules into the polymeric film used as coatings... [Pg.217]

The phase separation technique was introduced by Doane etal. [51,52], marking the beginning of PDLC term utilization. Phase separation is obtained from a homogeneous liquid phase mixture containing both liquid crystal and polymer (or a monomer or pre-polymer). During solidification of the polymer, almost all liquid crystal molecules are expelled polymer (phase separation) and are aggregated in droplets incorporated in the polymeric film. Phase separation, found to be the most effective, may be achieved through ... [Pg.360]

The structural and spectroscopic features of the photoactive complex are preserved inside the polymeric film, as confirmed by UV-vis spectra. In addition, SEM analysis of both the film surface and cross-section highlight a well-dispersed, homogeneous distribution of the catalyst domains, which appear as spherical particles of approximately 1-2 xm in diameter. The structural similarity of (RfN)4Wio032 with other surfactant encapsulated polyoxometalates (SEPs) suggests the formation of organized domains, similar to spherical onion-like vesicles. ... [Pg.597]

In addition to homogenous, permeable polymer films, microporous polymeric films have been also used as membrane materials. Difficulties with their use are the possible production of microemboli due to inadvertent sparging, high water vapor flux and blood damage due to the nature of the microporous material (10). [Pg.25]
