Polymer processing procedure

It should be soluble and/or fusible, so that it can be processed by conventional polymer processing procedures. [Pg.360]

As mentioned in Chapter 2, the numerical solution of the systems of algebraic equations is based on the general categories of direct or iterative procedures. In the finite element modelling of polymer processing problems the most frequently used methods are the direet methods. [Pg.199]

Thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) is a type of synthetic polymer that has properties between the characteristics of plastics and rubber. It belongs to the thermoplastic elastomer group. The typical procedure of vulcanization in rubber processing generally is not needed for TPU instead, the processing procedure for normal plastics is used. With a similar hardness to other elastomers, TPU has better elasticity, resistance to oil, and resistance to impact at low temperatures. TPU is a rapidly developing polymeric material. [Pg.137]

Polyvinylidene fluoride (Kynar) (PVDF) is probably the most widely used fluorinated polymer for chemical applications. It can be melt-processed using virtually all the melt-processible procedures. PVDF components such as pipe fittings, tubing, sheet, shapes, and... [Pg.37]

The present procedure is certainly applicable to convert hydrophilic surfaces to hydrophobic, or to impart more sophisticated functionalities other than polar property to various polymer materials. From the view point of practical polymer processing, in particular, of chemically inert polyolefins or highly crystalline polymers, inhibitory effect of oxygen is a difficulty to be overcome. [Pg.240]

Through control of the amount of cross-linking, nature of the packing material, and specific processing procedures, spheres of widely varying porosity are available. The motion in and out of the stationary phase depends on a number of factors including Brownian motion, chain size, and conformation. The latter two are related to the polymer chain s hydrodynamic volume—the real, excluded volume occupied by the polymer chain. Since smaller chains preferentially permeate the gel particles, the largest chains are eluted first. As noted above, the fractions are separated on the basis of size. [Pg.60]

This discussion is not intended to be an exhaustive review of the wood-polymer literature, but rather an overview of the processing procedures used today. In general, the free radicals used for the polymerization reaction come from two sources, temperature sensitive catalysts and Cobalt-60 gamma radiation. In each case a free radical is generated by the process, but from that point the vinyl polymerization mechanism is the same. Each... [Pg.311]

The stracture formed by donor acceptor BHJ blends is dependent on the solvent used. Studies of polyfluorene PCBM blends show that choice of solvent controls the segregation of materials within the blend film so that a vertical multilayer structure forms spontaneously in some cases (Bjorstrom and Moons, 2007). Similarly, the choice of solvent in a polymer-polymer blend controls the vertical arrangement of materials and the device performance (Arias et al, 2002). Exploitation of these effects may open new avenues for materials-processing procedures in the organic photovoltaic field. [Pg.484]

Several operational procedures must be observed in order to obtain products with satisfactory end quality using most types of conventional equipment, without the inclusion of special modifications such as screws or matrixes with specific designs. Extrusion or injection processes can use typical polymer processing screws (L/D of 20 1) designed to minimise the exposure time of the melted biopolymer. After use, the equipment can be purged using low-density polyethylene (PE) resin as a vehicle [29]. [Pg.87]

During the most frequently used processing procedures i.e. injection/compression moulding, the polymer is first completely fused. That implies for PK copolymer that the B-crystalline phase first completely is destroyed, before development of any a-crystallinity due to certain annealing conditions can be expected. [Pg.308]
