Poly coupling reactions

In the near future, it is believed that a major part of macromolecular chemistry will receive a strong impact from homogeneous organometallic catalysis. Thus, poly-coupling reactions with redox-sensitive precursor compounds to give polymers like 38 were discovered [72]. [Pg.1373]

One of the first examples was the above mentioned work from Yoshino et al. [7] concerning the synthesis of poly(9,9-dialkylfluorene)s via oxidative coupling of fluorene derivatives. Poly(9,9-dialkylfluorene) derivatives have been also synthesized via Ni- and Pd-catalyzed aryl-aryl homo- and cross-coupling reactions of sui-... [Pg.34]

The general approaches for the synthesis of poly(arylene ether)s include electrophilic aromatic substitution, nucleophilic aromatic substitution, and metal-catalyzed coupling reactions. Poly(arylene ether sulfone)s and poly(arylene ether ketone)s have quite similar structures and properties, and the synthesis approaches are quite similar in many respects. However, most of the poly(arylene ether sul-fone)s are amorphous while some of the poly(arylene ether)s are semicrystalline, which requires different reaction conditions and approaches to the synthesis of these two polymer families in many cases. In the following sections, the methods for the synthesis of these two families will be reviewed. [Pg.329]

Other coupling reactions were also employed to prepare poly(arylene etherjs. Polymerization of bis(aryloxy) monomers was demonstrated to occur in the presence of an Fe(III) chloride catalyst via a cation radical mechanism (Scholl reaction).134 This reaction also involves carbon-carbon bond formation and has been used to prepare soluble poly(ether sulfone)s, poly(ether ketone)s, and aromatic polyethers. [Pg.347]

Recently, Baneijee et al. prepared a series of difluoro monomers with pendent trifluoromethyl groups using a Pd(0)-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction (Scheme 6.32).242,243 These monomers were converted to poly(arylene ether)s by nucleophilic displacement of the halogen atoms on the benzene ring with several... [Pg.362]

The coupling reaction of aryl-alkenyl halides with alkenes in the presence of a palladium catalyst and a base is known as the Heck coupling (Scheme 9.4).6 Since the early 1980s, this type of coupling reaction has been used for die syndiesis of poly(arylenevinylene) and related polymers by polymerization of AB- or AA/BB-type of monomers (Scheme 9.5).7... [Pg.468]

By using a cocatalyst of Pd-Cu, aryl-alkenyl halides couple efficiently widi alkynes to generate die disubstituted alkynes (Scheme 9.6).8 This coupling reaction has been applied to die synthesis of polyphenyleneethynylenes by Yamamoto et al. in 1984 (Scheme 9.7).9a Due to the ready availability of diacetylenes and the mild coupling condition, this strategy has been widely used for die preparation of many poly(aryleneethynylene)s.9... [Pg.468]

ABA type poly(hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (HEMA) and PDMS copolymers were synthesized by the coupling reactions of preformed a,co-isocyanate terminated PDMS oligomers and amine-terminated HEMA macromonomers312). Polymerization reactions were conducted in DMF solution at 0 °C. Products were purified by precipitation in diethyl ether to remove unreacted PDMS oligomers. After dissolving in DMF/toluene mixture, copolymers were reprecipitated in methanol/water mixture to remove unreacted HEMA oligomers. Microphase separated structures were observed under transmission electron microscope, using osmium tetroxide stained thin copolymer films. [Pg.45]

Stimulated by extensive research activities on donor/acceptor substituted stilbenes, Mullen and Klarner have reported a donor/acceptor substituted poly(4,4 -biphenyl-diylvinylene) derivative (85) in which the NR2 donor and CN acceptor substituents are located on the vinylene unit [111]. The synthesis is based on a C-C-coupling reaction of in situ generated carbanion functions with a (pseudo)cation function, followed by a subsequent elimination of MeSH with formation of the olefinic double bond. [Pg.204]

The head-to-tail-coupling reactions described above are potentially useful in the design of dynamic combinatorial libraries. Features of these reactions include the rapid and reversible formation of carbon-carbon bonds, multifunctional ene-imine building blocks, and formation of stereo centers upon ene-imine linkage. Support for template-directed synthesis utilizing ene-imine building blocks is the formation of a poly ene-imine species that could recognize 3 -GGA-5 sequences of DNA.48 It is noteworthy that some polyene-imines are helical and could form a triple helix with DNA. [Pg.229]

Poly(pyrazabole)s containing an electron withdrawing moiety in the main chain were prepared the same way (scheme 39).69 The coupling reaction between... [Pg.161]
