Construction is often specified by calling for a certain thickness (usually 3 to 7 in.) and mesh density (usually 10 to 12 lb/ft3). Experience indicates that a properly sized wire mesh eliminator can remove 99% of 10-micron and larger droplets. Although wire mesh eliminators are inexpensive, they are more easily plugged than other types. [Pg.94]

The proper location of couples in the furnace depends upon the particular process and use to which the furnace is put. The primary consideration must be to locate the hot junction at the point the temperature of which is required. A secondary consideration, however, is to locate the couple where the lead wires may be conveniently taken care of. The space between the protecting tube of the couple and the furnace wall should be tightly plugged with refractory cement, so that hot air cannot strike through the hole on to the head of the couple, nor cold air be drawn in thus cooling the hot junction of the couple. [Pg.433]

Fixed power cords are common to machinery and household appliances, but care must be taken to ensure that the cord, strain relief, plug, and terminal block are type-approved and that the proper termination methods and makings are utilized. lEC-type terminal blocks (touch safe) are the preferred method for termination of the incoming power wiring. Other methods of termination are possible, such as for connection directly to circuit breakers, mains disconnect switch, PCBs and tabs/ screws on filters. Refer to the product standard for the alternative methods of input terminations. Solder connections shall not be the only method of fixing and in some cases are not allowed for high current connections. [Pg.104]

Proper Connections There are many ways to connect electrical conductors plugs, receptacles, screw terminals, wire nuts, and other special fasteners. It is important to tighten the screws or other fasteners that form electrical connections to ensure the conductors make good contact with each other. In some cases, codes specify the force or torque required for a coimection. The fuel pin and fluid are sealed into the tube by means of end plugs silver soldered into place. The tube is rnade of AISI Type 347 stainless steel of 0.188 in. OD and 0.008 in. wall thickness. The helical rib outside the fuel tube is made of low-carbon steel for these tests, although stainless steel or other material will ultimately be used. The rib (cross section 0.065 in. by 0.025 in.), is made of flattened wire. The stock is edge wound on a 1-in. diameter arbor, set, and finally pulled out lengthwise to form a helix of the proper diameter and a 4-inch right hand pitch. The helix is slipped over the fuel tube and soldered into place. One hundred and sixty-nine fuel tubes are required for each subassembly. [Pg.130]
