Plater

Typical equipment made from tantalum includes heat exchangers, reaction vessels liners, thermowells, and heating elements or heat shields for high temperature vacuum sintering furnaces. Tantalum fabricated parts are found in the manufacturing of pharmaceuticals, explosives, insecticides, dyes, acidic baskets for silver cyanide barrel platers, and in hydrochloric and hydrobromic acid condensers. 

A thin copper deposit, e.g. 2.5/zm, plated between steel and nickel, improves corrosion resistance during outdoor exposure and many platers also believe that a copper undercoating improves the covering power of nickel, particularly on rough steel. 

Thorium is a highly insoluble element, mainly carried in the particulate form in river waters. This is well shown by Th data for the MacKenzie river (Vigier et al. 2001) and for the Kalix river (Andersson et al. 1995 Porcelli et al. 2001) in both cases, more than 95% of Th is carried by >0.45 pm particles. An important part of this Th is included within detrital material. This is illustrated by sequential extractions performed on sediments from the Witham river (Plater et al. 1992), which show the very low amount of Th in ion-exchangeable and organic-bound fractions compared to Th in Fe-Mn oxides...

The current density can, as a rule, be controlled by the plater. It determines the CE and/or whether deposition will take place at all. The definition of current density in terms of electrodeposition as given above yields an average figure of little use in most cases. A more accurate, useful, and immediate definition is given as... 

Finally, cathode efficiencies are seldom determined directly. When questions arise in the plating shop, the experienced plater may adjust current and/or bath composition and/or temperature and other parameters to give a visibly normal amount of gas evolution. 

Erosion and discoloration of the teeth has been attributed to chromic acid exposure. Papillomas of the oral cavity and larynx were found in 15 of 77 chrome platers exposed for an average of 6.6 years to chromic acid mist at air concentrations of chromium of 0.4mg/mk ...
