Plastisol modified

At room temperature the suspension is very fluid and suitable for casting. At the proper temperature, the resin is completely dissolved in the plasticizer, forming a homogeneous plastic mass which upon cooling is a more or less flexible solid. Additives such as fillers, stabilizes, and colorants are also usually present. A plastisol modified with volatile solvents or diluents that evaporate upon heating is known as an Organosol. [Pg.543]

During the past 10 years great strides have been made in the development and service application of highly loaded, synthetic rubber-base and interstitially-cast double-base composite-modified propellants. Largely for this reason and for economic and logistic reasons as well, the slurry-cast nitrocellulose plastisols have been relegated to a secondary role. [Pg.39]

Basically, PVC plastisol propellants are systems of binder,.oxidizer, and metallic fuel (if used). Minor ingredients, normally comprising less than 2% of the total, consist of wetting agent, stabilizer, opacifier, and burning rate modifier. The composition of three typical PVC plastisol propellants is shown in Table I. [Pg.46]

Propellants. Satriana and Bracuti (Ref 30) claim the use of pyrolyzed urea as a ballistic modifier which when incorporated in a doublebase plastisol propint produces a burning rate plateau. Thus, PbSnC>3 (90) and urea, acet and w (10g) are sintered for one hr at 500—50°, cooled, screened, molded and cured for use in a plastisol proplnt contg 30% HMX. Leach (Ref 37) reports that ballistic and other test results indicate that there is no significant difference between M30 proplnt contg Nitroguanidine prepd by the urea/AN process and that prepd by the standard British fusion process. [Pg.121]

J.B. Eldridge, Solid Propellant Mixtures , USP 3951706 (1976) CA 86, 65360 (1976) [The inventor claims that by modifying a doublebase proplnt (30—50%) by addn of a castable plastisol (nitrasol) binder (50—70%), with or without oxidizer and fuel, a castable solid pro-pint having improved and controllable burning characteristics over both types of propints is formed. Thus, a mixt of NC 22.8 and ethyl centralite 1.2 is blended for 30 mins with Petrin 96 and then, successively, AP 60 and atomized A1 30g are added. To this mixt is added 90g of 30 mesh double-base proplnt termed X-12 (consisting of NC 50, NG 38, DPA 59, 2-nitro-diphenylamine 2, Pb-j3-resorcylate 2 and can-... [Pg.882]

Many different adhesives have been tested and used in weldbonding. These include both high-strength structural adhesives, such as modified epoxies, and relatively low-strength adhesives, such as vinyl plastisols or epoxy-polysulfides that are commonly used for sealing and vibration damping. Table 14.10 shows that a variety of adhesives and substrates are compatible with the weldbonding process. [Pg.283]

Weldbonded aluminum joints (1-mm aluminum alloy 2036-T4) where compared with spot welded aluminum (1-mm aluminum alloy 2036-T4) and spot welded steel (1-mm steel 1010) joints.45,46 Weldbonded 2036-T4 joints made with a vinyl plastisol adhesive and with a one-part modified epoxy had a fatigue strength about twice that of the spot welded aluminum alloy and approximately the same as that of the spot welded steel. The fatigue strength of the weldbonded aluminum joints with polysufide-epoxy adhesive or with high-peel-strength epoxy adhesive is higher than that of steel spot welds alone. [Pg.284]

To meet specific needs, other additives such as lubricants, extenders, fillers, impact modifiers, and pigments are added to the PVC compound, in addition to heat stabilizers and plasticizers. Today, it is estimated that more than 60% of all the adducts used in plastics are used in PVC compounds. Although the earliest PVC compounds were produced as emulsions, essentially all PVC compounds are produced today as suspensions. Suspension compounds contain essentially no emulsifiers and are more processable. Liquid plastisols typically have room-temperature viscosities of less than 10,000 cp. Products made from plastisols are usually very soft. They have Shore Durometers of 55A and less, to as low as 30A, and they can have characteristic skin- or leather-like appearance and feel. [Pg.499]

PVC plastisols or pastes should have a viscosity suitable for handling and storage, as well as the manufacturing process. This is necessary for thinning under the appropriate shear conditions. Paste PVC resins (or blends of resins) are designed to satisfy a particular rheology profile, but sometimes the addition of viscosity modifiers is necessary. Fumed silicas are typically used. Calcium sulfonate gels have also been promoted (458). [Pg.25]

The nitrate ester propellants can be plastisol-bound (high NC) or polymer-bound (low NC). If a binder is used, it usually is an isocyanate-cured polyester or polyether. Some propellants contain combustion modifiers, such as lead oxide. Gun propellants usually are single base (NC), double base (NC and NG), or triple base [NC, NG, and nitroguanidine (NQ)]. Some of the newer, lower vulnerability gun propellants contain binders and crystalline explosives and thus are similar to PBX. [Pg.108]

Compared to a common thixotrope such as fumed silica, pulp provides equivalent viscosity at less than one tenth the weight in a typical epoxy resin. In addition, fluid viscosity is unaffected by further processing (agitation) or aging—in contrast to fumed silica modified resin where viscosity drops and is not fully recovered under similar conditions. Pulp can also provide reinforcement in an adhesive matrix as shown by the significant increase in tensile strength, modulus, and tear strength of both a PVC plastisol adhesive and a silicone sealant on the addition of pulp [137,140]. [Pg.1024]
