Plants differentiation

Structured uncertainty relates to parametric variations in the plant dynamics, i.e. uncertain variations in coefficients in plant differential equations. [Pg.303]

From Figure 10.44, the plant differential equation may be written as... [Pg.379]

Product formation rates have already been mentioned above as being influenced by environmental factors and by plant differentiation. Much previous research has approached the questions of environment and cell state empirically. Studies related to methods for optimizing product formation rates should be based, however, on a more fundamental understanding of cell biochemistry and physiology. [Pg.194]

The work of Chinoy (1962), Chinoy et al. (1969) and Laloraya et al. (1972) has shown that almost all types of plant differentiations are linked with the presence of peroxidase and reducing activity in the differentiated cells. Laloraya et al. (1972) have suggested that peroxidase and polyphenol- AA play a basic role in regulating the redox state and thereby the energy levels of dividing cells and also hormonal imbalances resulting in differentiation. These authors have proposed a scheme suggesting redox state and hormonal levels in plants (Fig. 10.1). [Pg.280]

Proteins. Proteins (qv) supply amino acids (qv), palatabiHty enhancement, and, when present in more than requited amounts, energy as the proteins are degraded and nitrogen compounds excreted. Dogs and cats can consume and meet amino acid requirements in the form of pure amino acids with complete success. However, animal tissue cannot differentiate between pure, plant, or animal sources of those amino acids, and those amino acids can be obtained much more economically from either plant or animal proteins. [Pg.150]

The price differential at which coal becomes competitive with gas depends on plant size and the cost of capital, but based on estimates by the International Energy Agency (21) the required price ratio for gas to coal in North America falls into the range of 3.1 to 3.7 on an equivalent energy basis ( /MJ). Current prices give a gas/coal cost ratio nearer 1.5 to 2.0. As a result, all projected new methanol capacity is based on natural gas or heavy oil except for the proposed coal-based plant in China. [Pg.165]

Many plant substances possess antivitamin D activity but the mode of action and in most cases the identity remain unknown. Rachitogenic factors have been observed in yeast. Because of the metaboHc interrelationships that exist between vitamin D, Ca, and P, it is sometimes difficult to differentiate between chelators of mineral elements and tme antivitamins. One reported vitamin D antagonist in oats was later identified as phytic acid (72). [Pg.479]

Another type of flocculation results from particle—particle collisions caused by differential settlement. This effect is quite pronounced in full-size plants where large rapidly falling particles capture small particles that settle more slowly. [Pg.318]

Mathematically speaking, a process simulation model consists of a set of variables (stream flows, stream conditions and compositions, conditions of process equipment, etc) that can be equalities and inequalities. Simulation of steady-state processes assume that the values of all the variables are independent of time a mathematical model results in a set of algebraic equations. If, on the other hand, many of the variables were to be time dependent (m the case of simulation of batch processes, shutdowns and startups of plants, dynamic response to disturbances in a plant, etc), then the mathematical model would consist of a set of differential equations or a mixed set of differential and algebraic equations. [Pg.80]

Overseas Construction Costs Although Table 9-55 gives location factors for the construction of chemical plants of similar function in various countries at 1993 values, these may vaiy differentially over a period of time owing to local changes in labor costs and productivity. Hence, it is often necessaiy to estimate the various components of overseas construction costs separately. Equipment and material prices will depend on local labor costs and the availability of raw materials. If the basic materials have to be imported, costs in the source area become important and import duties and freight charges must be added. [Pg.876]

Principle of Operation Spiral concentration of ores and industrial materials is based primarily on the specific-gravity differentials of the materials to be separated. The shape facdor of the feed material is also important, and utilization of reagentized feed can change the apparent specific gravity of component minerals by forced attachment of air bubbles to mineral floes. The best known spiral-type concentrator is the Humphreys spiral concentrator, which first proved its commercial feasibihty in 1943. In that year an Oregon plant successfully... [Pg.1786]
