Plant description. Two nearly identical 430-Mw(e), western, conventional pulverized-coal-utility boilers (referred to as plants A and D) were tested. Both units use tangentially fired burners and burn low-sulfur 200-mesh coal of heat content approximately 27 000 J/g. Both units are equipped with cold-side electrostatic precipitators (ESP) of design efficiency of 99.5% or greater, and a modern flue-gas desulfurization (FGD) system consisting of four verticle spray towers. 

The pilot-plant description is given in section 3.3.4. in Chapter 3. Methanol-Water system was considered with an initial charge of 900 ml of Methanol and 2100 ml of Water giving a total of 85.04 gmol of the mixture with <0.25, 0.75> moleffactions for Methanol and Water respectively. 

Brief Plant Description. Oxygen is reacted with a feedstock/steam mixture in a Texaco or Shell generator to produce a synthesis gas with a low H /CO ratio together with carbon dioxide, methane, sulfur compounds and a small percentage of unreacted carbon. 

Plant design is an active part of the total lifetime of all chemical processes. The birth to death sequence of a chemical plant is characterized by the level of detail of the plant description required at each design step.
