C EN 42, 50-3 (Sept 28, 1964) [Description of cast composite proplnts manufd at Aerojet -General Plant, near Homestead, Florida, for use in large rocket motors, such as 120 156l, diam. Ammonium perchlorate, (previously ground to particles ranging from 1 to 2 microns and blended with ca 0.2% of tricalcium phosphate to improve their flow props), is used as an oxidizer. Aluminum powder is used as a fuel and liquid polybutadiene-acrylonitrite as the fuel-binder. To these ingredients are added a catalyst, such as iron oxide (to... [Pg.256]

The first anhydride plant in actual operation using methyl acetate carbonylation was at Kingsport, Tennessee (41). A general description has been given (42) indicating that about 900 tons of coal are processed daily in Texaco gasifiers. Carbon monoxide is used to make 227,000 t/yr of anhydride from 177,000 t/yr of methyl acetate 166,000 t/yr of methanol is generated. Infrared spectroscopy has been used to foUow the apparent reaction mechanism (43). [Pg.77]

For some applications, for example, human reliability analysis, a situation needs to be rated on a numerical scale. In these cases, values such as those shown in the left-hand column of Table 3.1 can be generated by comparing the situation being evaluated with the descriptions in the second, third, and subsequent columns which represent other PIFs relevant to the situation being assessed. These represent the worst, average, and best conditions that are likely to occur in chemical plants in general and correspond to ratings of 1,5, and 9 on the numerical scale in the left hand colunrm of Table 3.1. Obviously,... [Pg.105]

It will be convcnif-ni to deal with the oils obtained from the leaves of various specii s of Pious, Larix,. hies, and certain closely allied plants, under the general description of plDe-uecdli, oils. A considerable enmber ot ihete have been e.titmincd, bn only a few are commercial articles. [Pg.53]

This type of turbine is similar in all respects to the steam power-generator turbine but is considerably simpler, not having as many wheels, nor the same power plant economics to consider. For a general description, see Table 14-15. Neerken is an excellent reference to steam turbine... [Pg.661]

This chapter aims to convey the basic technical principles involved in electricity generation for industrial and commercial applications, with supporting technical data giving examples of the performance and efficiency of various schemes. A general guide is provided on the factors which have a major bearing on choice of an electricitygenerating scheme with further details of the plant, its layout and descriptions of actual installations. [Pg.177]

In the first chapter of Volume 2 (hereinafter referred to as 21 1) we presented the general framework of MODEL.LA., a modeling language that can capture the hierarchical and distributed character of processing systems. We will employ all aspects of MODEL.LA. in order to develop a complete and consistent description of plants that will satisfy the modeling needs for the synthesis of operating procedures. [Pg.50]
