Planning home locations

For example, if you decide you want to retire in a home by a lake, this may be the time to buy the land. If you want to live in a protected community with a golf course, you can buy now, use it as a vacation home or rental, and make a permanent move later. This is also an excellent time to plan vacations with your retirement location in mind. Also, if you have not had a solid physical exercise program and a good diet, now is the time to act. You don t want to approach or enter retirement out of shape. [Pg.41]

Whenever possible, select a qualified laboratory that is located close to the project site or home office. This will reduce expenses for a laboratory audit, if such is planned or if a need to conduct one arises. [Pg.86]

Plot plan- An overhead view plan that shows the location of the home on the lot. Includes all easements, property lines, set backs, and legal descriptions of the home. Provided by the surveyor. [Pg.270]

The expected time to execute home appliances development projects in man-year is longer than for modules or elements. Bigger core teams should be collocated in the same office to enable smooth inter-team communication. Some of the activities for vacuum cleaner motor development, which were managed before by external team members located in functional departments, are now managed by core team members. For example, industrial designers inside a core team communicate directly with end users, a specialist for process planning has direct contact with tool suppliers. Direct communication reduces the probability of wrong data interpretation and improves the transfer of information inside the core team. It is known that increased physical distance between employees workplaces dramatically reduce the frequency of informal communication and data transfer [2]. [Pg.663]

Historically, one of the natural responses to rising sea level has been retreat. Wetlands have demonstrated this as an effective response to sea level rise. Retreat has also been used in some situations to protect development or movable property. During the 1982/1983 El Nino storms, a mobile home subdivision in Pacifica, CA lost the seaward most row of lots. The response was to pull the facilities landward and reduce the number of available sites. Dming the storms of 1997/1998, a different part of Pacifica, CA was attacked by waves and 10 homes were eventually removed from the bluff top. In southern Big Sm, portions of Pacific Coast Highway have been threatened by bluff retreat. Small amoimts of revetment have been built to protect the most threatened portions, but the overall plan is to relocate several miles of the road to a safer, more inland location. Such examples of retreat may be more common in the futme, as the threat from coastal erosion becomes more pervasive and the long-term costs of in-place protection increase. [Pg.1016]

In colonial days, the Du Pont Company made black powder. The Du Pont family planned and built their factory into a hillside in a way that would direct the force of an explosion out over the Delaware River. This orientation protected the workers homes and families in the village located behind the factory. The risks in this business meant that they had to think about safety all the time Their lives depended on it. [Pg.4]

The initial plan for a proposed wind project in Spanish Fork, Utah, for example, was objected to by a local city-engineer who thought that the construction might interfere with the city s nearby springwater collection system (Hartman et al. 2011). However, an alternative plan, which required that the turbines be located closer to people s homes, was resisted by community members. Finally, an independent consultant engineer s determination that the project would not harm the local water supply re-qualified the initial siting plan. [Pg.260]

Military families are unique in many ways as compared to their civilian counterparts (see Isay, 1968 LaGrone, 1978). On average, a military family will move every 3 years, often to locations overseas. Children are therefore required to change schools and make new friends on a frequent basis. In many families both parents are in the military, potentially compounding disruptions at home. There are also many single-parent military families. Often children go exclusively to schools dominated by military children and recognize that their lives are different from those of civilian children. Military parents are required to have a plan that specifies who is to take care of their children if they are deployed, and deployment itself places enormous strain on the military family. [Pg.192]
