Planning a Site Investigation

Site investigations consist of a combination of an overall recormaissance study of an area and one or more site-specific studies. Reconnaissance site investigations usually cover a wide area, t5qjically ranging from tens to hundreds of square kilometers to support planning and feasibility studies. By contrast, site-specific studies are made on a particular location. The purpose of this type of study is to produce the data required for final design. 

In general, a reconnaissance site investigation involves three phases (Richards et al., 1976 Le Tirant, 1979). These phases in order of execution are as follows  

Literature survey of the geology of the areas including information on the water column (met-ocean). Met-ocean is an abbreviation for the meteorological and oceanographic information. Factors that need to be considered in meteorological and oceanographic studies are presented in Tables 3.3 and 3.4, respectively. Table 3.3
