The amount of surface-active agent present may be so small that no measurable change in any physical property, including interfacial tension, can be detected. This is particularly true if the agent is a finely divided solid (El). Lindland and Terjesen (L4) showed that, after a definite but small concentration of surfactant had been used, further additions caused but little change in terminal velocity. 

At the same time a definite, radical lowering of the frequency and amplitude of the oscillations was noted. Such reduction in oscillation reduces mass-transfer rates.

Volume 1 of Advances in Photochemistry appeared in 1963. The stated purpose of the series was to explore the frontiers of photochemistry through the medium of chapters written by pioneers who are experts. The editorial policy has always been to solicit articles from scientists who have strong personal points of view, while encouraging critical discussions and evaluations of existing data. In no sense have the articles been simply literature surveys, although in some cases they may have also fulfilled that purpose. 

The evaluation of existing data is an exercise that can take many forms. At present there is no generally accepted approach for the interpretation of the results of individual screens and tests. Moreover, there is no generally accepted WOE approach for the evaluation and interpretation of a series of screens or testing with the goal of classification of a chemical with regard to endocrine disruption potential. 

We have asked these authors to present their points of view through critical discussion and evaluation of existing data. In no sense have the articles been simply literature surveys although in some cases they have fulfilled both purposes.
