A typical test installation uses a frame to support racks on which the specimens are mounted by means of porcelain or plastics insulators. The insulators may be spaced to take specimens varying in size from 10-1 x 13-4cm to 10-1 X 32cm and even larger specimens may be used for certain tests. Special types of exposure have been devised to take into account important effects of partial shelter and accumulation of pools of water, as in the case of the specimen and method of support used by Pilling and Wesley to compare steels for roofing. [Pg.1068]

In small animals it is best that oral medications be ingested by the animal on its own, thus the special compounding with flavors and in appropriate textures discussed earlier. There are still occasions when an owner may have to open a pet s mouth and administer a pill through a piller, which is a tube with a plunger. [Pg.724]

Behavioral modifications such as weight loss, avoidance of alcohol and sleeping pills, and the use of specialized pillows that encourage the person to sleep on his or her side (sleep apnea occurs most often when the person is sleeping on his or her back). [Pg.30]

Drugs are administered as a solid in the form of capsules, tablets, and pills (e.g., clonidine), a volatile liquid (e.g., halothane and enflurane), a solution (e.g., chlorpromazine), an aerosol (e.g., beclomethasone), a gas (e.g., oxygen and nitrous oxide), and a crystalline suspension (e.g., insulin). The route of administration is chosen based on the desired onset and duration of action of the drug, the nature of the drug, any special circumstances, and the bioavailability of the drug. [Pg.2]

Common club drugs include other synthetic drugs MDMA (ecstasy), ketamine (Special K, vitamin K, Kit Kat, Keller, super acid, and super C), and Rohypnol (chemical name is flunitrazepam also known as roofies, forget pills, the drop drug, rope, LaRocha, ropies, Mexican valium, roachies, ruffles, wolfies, and rophies). [Pg.215]

The controlled-release formulations, on the other hand, prolong the release of oxycodone from the tablet for several hours. These pills have a special protective outer coating that makes them harder to digest, so that the oxycodone inside can be released slowly over a period of about 12 hours. That means the pills are capable of providing relief that lasts twice as long, allowing users to obtain the same effect they would get from taking an immediate-release tablet once every six hours. [Pg.400]

Since disperse dyes diffuse very slowly into PES fibers, efforts have been made to increase the rate of dye strike by chemical or physical alteration of the fiber. The fiber is also modified to reduce the pilling tendency, to increase shrinkage and elasticity, and to reduce flammability. Such modified fibers exhibit improved dye receptivity. Fibers with improved dyeability can be dyed with disperse dyes at boiling temperature without a carrier or with basic dyes when they are modified with acidic components (5-sulfoisophthalic acid). Fibers of this type are used if dyeing cannot be carried out easily above 100°C (e.g., in the case of floor coverings, articles made of PES-wool blends, stretch materials, and cord). Strongly crimped PES bicomponent fibers are produced for special purposes. These fibers are normally also dyeable at the boil and without a carrier [136, 137, 138],... [Pg.401]
