There is a tool that is invaluable when working on a computer. It can be bought from different tool vendors and is often given away at trade shows. That tool is known as a tweaker (pictured below). It is a screwdriver that is shaped like a pen and is about the same size. It has a Phillips screwdriver on one end and a flat-blade screwdriver on the other and will clip easily into a shirt pocket. 

This has a polypropylene (PP) seat, with welded tubular-steel legs. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the four screws that attach seat to the legs. These self-tapping screws (Fig. 1.5) with sharp, widely spaced threads, are much longer than the typical 4 mm thick seat. When screwed into a moulded cylindrical boss on the hidden side of the seat, the threads cut grooves in the initially smooth plastic. It is supported by four or more buttresses, to prevent bending loads causing failure, where the boss joins the seat. Measure the thickness of the buttresses. 

Combining Tools We use different hand tools during combining processes. We use screwdrivers to install and remove screws. Screwdrivers have tips that match the type of screw on which they are used. We use slotted screwdrivers on slotted-head screws and the Phillips screwdriver on Phillips head screws. Some screws have square drives, hex drives, or torx drives. Figure 8-19 shows various types of screwdrivers. It is important to select the appropriate size and type of screwdriver when installing or removing a screw.

The tool that can most often be found in a technician s toolkit is a set of screwdrivers. Most of the larger components in today s computers are mounted in the case with screws. If these components need to be removed, you must have the correct type of screwdriver available. There are three major types flat blade, Phillips, and Torx. 

The most commonly used type of screwdriver for computers today is the Phillips driver (Figure 1.16). Phillips-head screws are used because they have more surfaces to turn against, reducing the risk of damaging the head of the screw. More than 90 percent of the screws in most computers today will be Phillips-head screws. 

Several screwdrivers are available with changeable tips, like bits for a drill. The advantage is that you can easily change these screwdrivers from a flat blade to a Phillips to a Torx just by changing the bits in the driver. The bits are usually stored In the handle of this type of screwdriver. 

Dismantle the cassette by unscrewing the five screws that fasten the two halves together, using a small Phillips-type screwdriver. Lift off the top of the cassette. If there is a clear plastic window, that allows the tape levels to... 

PhilUps-head screw (Henry M. Phillips) The Phillips-head screw has an X-shaped slot in the head and can withstand the torque of a machine-driven screwdriver, which is greater than the torque that can he withstood by the conventional screw.

The milliampere settings make the meter especially vulnerable to being damaged by excessive current, since there is no internal resistor being used to act as a limiter. If a battery is directly attached to the meter by mistake, with no external resistance such as the transformer, the fuse will blow out, and the meter will no longer operate. The back cover can then be taken off, usually with a small Phillips head screwdriver, and in this case the fuse could be replaced with a 315 ma fast-blow type.
