Phenolphthalein glucuronide

Dietary exposure of rats to 10 ppm (0.5 mg/kg/day) endrin aldehyde or 5 ppm (0.25 mg/kg/day) endrin ketone for 15 days resulted in slight elevations (p<0.05) in SGPT and SGOT (Young and Mehendale 1986). However, no alterations in liver weight or in hepatobiliary function, as measured by phenolphthalein glucuronide or bile flow, were reported.

High-resolution magic-angle-spinning (HR MAS) solid state NMR was shown to provide compound identification of separated TLC zones without elution (Wilson et al., 1997). Zones were removed by scraping from Cij-bonded plates, slurried with D2O, and placed in a sealed 4-mm zirconia MAS rotor of a Brucker DRX-600 NMR spectrometer for H NMR observation. Spectra were illustrated for 10 J.g of salicylic acid and phenolphthalein glucuronide, which quantity can be obtained from spots on an analytical plate without the need for preparative layer chromatography. 

This problem of what happens to compounds at the level of the plasma/ liver cell membrane is further illustrated bj - a comparison of the biliary excretion data for pheiiolphthalein and phenolphthalein glucuronide in the rabbit (.4bou-EUiMakarem, 1967). SKF 525-A did, however, depress the rate of biliary excretion of indocyanine green. This dye has a complex chemical structure, with one eat ionic and two anionic centers (see structure XXXIII). The liver seems to have independent mechanisms for the secretion of organic cations and anions (Schanker and Solomon, 1963). Thus it i.s possible that indocyanine green is excreted by both pathways, while succinylsulfathiazole and phenolphthalein glucuronide can be secreted only by the anionic route.
