Pharmacogenomic vaccines, namely vaccines tailored to the genomics of patients, provide an excellent opportunity for an interlude on infectious diseases, without which no medical story is complete. To start that interlude, let it be said that more or less 50% of the time an infectious disease depends where in the world you live. More precisely it comprises much less than 50%... 

Pharmacogenomics in the Evaluation of Efficacy and Adverse Events During Clinical Development of Vaccines... 

The pharmacogenomics analysis of samples from a clinical study with an aluminum hydroxide-adsorbed vaccine (diphtheria-tetanus-acellular pertussis/polio/ Haemophilus influenzae) in infants is described. These instructions can easily be adapted to clinical studies of other vaccines with changes to the type of administered vaccine, administration route, vaccination ages, and so on. This method is therefore also suitable for assessing vaccine responses in adults and to study the cellular reactions in clinical subjects who have experienced adverse reactions. 

Using array technology in pharmacogenomics, efficacy and systemic toxicity can be evalnated for the improvement of the design and development of preclinical vaccines. Methods of applying pharmacogenomics in the evaluation of efficacy and adverse events dnring clinical development of vaccines are also discnssed. 

Another reason that older diseases are not so harmful is because the most seriously affected humans died out. We are the descendants of the survivors, and inherited that resistance. This immediately suggests that our genomics plays a huge role and that vaccines tailored to our pharmacogenomics do make perfect sense.
