Pharmacists Council

The regulatory authorities involved in the registration of drug products are mainly the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN). The latter is responsible for registering an importer or local manufacturer.

Within the medical department there may be two types of information support. There will be medical information scientists, who provide the external scientific service, now required by Article 13 of Directive 92/28/EEC (on advertising) of the Council of the European Communities. In addition, there may be those, sometimes called scientific advisers, who provide specialised information support to a product or therapy area within the company. Many medical information scientists are qualified pharmacists. 

The Supreme Court rules in favor of the Virginia Citizens Consumer Council, which sued the Virginia Board of Pharmacy for prohibiting pharmacists from advertising drug prices. The Court concludes that the public has the right to know price information about prescription drugs.

Proposals for revision of the JP monographs or test methods can be submitted through the JP secretariat in the Pharmaceutical and Medical Safety Bureau by any concerned individual or organization. The proposed monograph, either for a new entry or for a revision, is then drafted by a panel member or an industry professional. New or revised test methods are handled in a similar manner. Inspections are financed either by sending a bill to the inspection site or by the two or three centimes that has to be paid by the pharmacist to his council organization APB for every product dispensed. 

Professor Johann Schlebusch is a pharmacist who has been involved in medicine regulatory affairs since 1972. He has extensive experience as an assessor of GMP and QA, and wcis responsible for the assessment of modifications and changes to the quality part of the medicine registration application. He was the Registrar of Medicines from 1983 to 1998 and Director of the Directorate (secretariat) of the Medicines Control Council for the same period. 

The restructuring of pharmaceutical professions was undertaken at the very beginning of Tunisia s independence. In August 1957, an Order was enacted to dismantle the Council of Pharmacists Order established by French pharmacists. A temporary commission in charge of drawing up legislation governing the pharmaceutical profession in Tunisia was established. 

The General Optical Council (GOC) code of ethics also states that the optometrist must include their GOC number to enable a pharmacist to check on the GOC register for opticians with the same name. 

There are a number of methods you could use to verify the status of the doctor including looking back through recent prescription forms to find other supplies requested by the same locum practitioner or ringing other local pharmacies to see if they can confirm his identity. Alternatively, the General Medical Council (GMC) has advised that pharmacists can use the out-of-hours automated service (the telephone number is available via the GMC website - www.gmc-uk.org) to check a doctor s registration if the pharmacist has the doctor s GMC registration number.

Nonadherence to medication regimens remains a major problem in health care. The National Council on Patient Information and Education (NCPIE) has termed noncompliance America s other drug problem.Pharmacists are in an ideal position to assess and treat adherence-related problems that can adversely affect patients health outcomes. Strategies to monitor and improve adherence are key components of pharmaceutical care plans, especially for patients with chronic diseases, such as hypertension, diabetes, and atherosclerotic heart disease. Nonadherence is a behavioral disorder that can be assessed and managed through a carefully devised pharmaceutical care plan. 

ACCP participates in several coalitions with other national organizations, including the Council on Creden-tialing in Pharmacy, the Joint Commission of Pharmacy Practitioners, the Alliance for Pharmaceutical Care, and the Pharmaceutical Sciences Consortium. In general, ACCP s advocacy efforts are focused on the federal government, with the overall goal of better enabling clinical pharmacists to provide patient care and perform research.

The Canadian Hospital Pharmacy Residency Board is organized under the auspices of Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists. The Board consists of seven members. The terms of reference of the Board specifies that at least one of the members be from a recognized Faculty of Pharmacy. The members of the Board are selected by the Board itself and approved by CSHP Council. A chairperson and vice-chair are elected from the seven member Board, with a term of two years for each of the executives. The members themselves serve for two years, a term which is renewable twice for a total of six years. 

Nearly all state boards of pharmacy also require that registered pharmacists complete a certain number of continuing education units (CEUs) before they can renew their licenses. The BPS is directed by a nine-member board that includes six pharmacists, two health professionals who are not pharmacists, and one public/consumer member. A specialty council of six specialist members and three pharmacists not in the specialty direct the certification process for each specialty.
