Residual catalyst (expressed as ash content). The actual residues depend on the manufacturing process used and on the characteristics of the polymer. The so-called new generation HD-PE processes such as the Solvay process use superactive catalysts which produce polymers with a low ash content and, hence, low or negligible odor. Some narrow MWD (Molecular Weight Distribution) resins also have lower catalyst residues than their wide MWD counterparts. [Pg.65]

Blend products based on PES are also available commercially. The products Radel AG-340 and AG-360 from Solvay are sold as 20% and 30% fiberglass-reinforced blend products based on PES being a majority component. These products offer performance profiles very similar to those of 20% and 30% glass-reinforced PES but with reduced specific gravity, slightly enhanced stiffness, and improved processability. These blends also offer attractive economics relative to glass-filled PES. [Pg.319]

Polyethylene is produced all over Europe the plants are usually in the vicinity of refineries which support them with the raw materials. The main production sites (in Western Europe) for polyethylene are shown in Table 3.2. Due to mergers and joint venture formations, the number of European producers has decreased over the last few years. Some of the European producers are part of worldwide polyethylene producing companies others only focus on Europe. The largest PE producers in the world are Dow, ExxonMobil and Equistar, followed by Borealis and Basell. Equistar does not produce in Europe, but all the others do. Besides these four companies, Polimeri Europa, DSM, BP, Repsol, Atofina and Solvay, who formed a joint venture with BP, are the other important producers in Europe. [Pg.31]

Polymerization 1,500 mg of the catalyst precursor was added to a 1.5 liter autoclave using hexane as diluent and a mixture of tetrabutyl tin and aluminum trichloride as the catalyst activator. 30 g of polyethylene with a density of 0.962 g/cc was collected after a two hour polymerization at 80 C and 213 psig of ethylene. The Solvay Cie catalyst exhibited an activity of about 1,500 g PE/g Ti. [Pg.63]

PSU/PES continues to find new applications in consumer products. For example, in 2002, Solvay announced that Keurig Premium Coffee Systems patented Coffee House Taste by the Cup brewing system was using injection moulded, heat- and residue-resistant hot water delivery components made from UDEL PSU resins. [Pg.136]

Solvay Advanced Polymers offers the broadest range of high performance materials of any supplier. These include PPS, PSU/PES, LCP, polyketones, polyarylamide, polyamide-imide and polyphthalamide. The company, which is headquartered in the USA, was established in 2001 following Solvay s acquisition of BP s advanced polymers business. [Pg.155]
