Personality mismatch

The most common CRDs include jet lag, shift-work sleep disruption, delayed sleep-phase disorder, and advanced sleep-phase disorder. Jet lag occurs when a person travels across time zones, and the external environmental time is mismatched with the internal circadian clock. Delayed and advanced sleep-phase disorders occur when bed and wake times are delayed or advanced (by 3 or more hours) compared with socially prescribed bed and wake times. [Pg.625]

One area of research related to abuse or neglect has to do with how well a person fits within his or her social environment. One researcher, Marsha Linehan (1993), has talked about how a poor fit with the social environment (viz., not fitting into the family, school life, or other important social networks) may cause psychiatric problems if the poorness of fit causes the person to feel like an outsider or to feel constandy invalidated or put down. Many of my clients have told me that they have not felt part of their families or that they did not fit well into society in general, or have described themselves as black sheep. Abuse and neglect lead to an invalidating environment, but so can mismatches of personalities within families or mismatches of behavioral patterns with social norms. Furthermore, there is evidence that the way emotion is expressed in families can be associated with a poorness of fit that can influence the course of drug problems. [Pg.23]

A mismatch between operator procedures and the automatic control system of the reactor (see also Table 17) was the first active failure identified in this scenario. This precursor was still present mainly due to a shortage of people. Literally it was said that the pressure relief valve would open if the wrong value was inserted into the reactor s control system. The second precursor was the failure of the pressure relief valve (see also Table 17), which was not known to the responsible person who decided to ignore the difference between procedures and control system. The pressure relief valve failed, because resins stuck in the valve after it was used for the first time. Consequently the second time the valve was opened it was at a much higher pressure due to the build up of resins in the valve. If this second precursor had not been observed in time by damp on the pipes situated above the pressure relief valve or by the alarms in the control room a possible accident scenario existed. This was especially dangerous as the alarms in the control room are often ignored because of the high incidence of false alarms (see also Table 17), which was the third precursor present. [Pg.135]

This disorder occurs when there is a mismatch between the normal rest—activity schedule for a person s environment and the person s circadian sleep— wake pattern. There are four subtypes ... [Pg.227]

Equation 1 shows the relationship of sample collection, preconcentration, and detection in the portal. This equation contains measurable parameters such as (i) sample removal and transport from a person, (ii) collection (adsorption) and release (desorption) of the explosive in the preconcentrator, (iii) additional preconcentration, if applicable, (iv) a term that accounts for flow mismatches between the detector inlet and the preconcentrator subsystem outlet, and (v) a proportionality term relating signal strength to concentration at the detector. [Pg.373]

Although it may appear that 17C is part of the preconcentration term and not sample collection, this sample collection is a function of both the sample collection subsystem and preconcentrator. The sample collection subsystem is designed to efficiently remove explosives from the person and transport the explosives to the preconcentrator. Thus, 17,. accounts for both the removal and the transport. The preconcentrator then traps or collects the explosives (17J for subsequent detection. Sample collection and preconcentration must be integrated for optimal performance in a trace portal detection system. In other words, the preconcentrator should be designed to accept the entire volumetric airflow of the sampling system. Any mismatch in these subsystems will decrease the ability of the portal to detect explosives. [Pg.374]

Fio. 12. Five-year graft survival in first cadaveric kidney transplant recipients according to the number of mismatched HLA-A and -B antigens between the donor and the recipient. The number of mismatched antigens (MM) and the number of recipients in each category are shown. Recipients with no mismatched antigens (0 MM) have significantly better outcomes than those with mismatches. All patients included in this analysis were treated with Cyclosporin A. From the Collaborative Transplant Study (G. Opelz, personal communication). [Pg.252]

MCM-D/C, Multichip Module Deposited and Cofired. This version of an MCM is a combination of a cofired, mnltilayer ceramic snbstrate containing the common wiring for a family of modules and deposited conductor and insnlation layers containing the personality wiring. It has all of the problems of each technology it nses pins problems related to mismatches in temperature coefficient of the two materials systems. [Pg.291]

As a result of this, if there is a mismatch between a person s ability to perceive the risk accurately, and the real life extent of the risk, the person can be misled into under- or overestimating the level of the risk. [Pg.78]

Often behaviors not targeted by the CBC become relevant, perhaps because they facilitate or hinder the performance of a critical behavior or because they should be included on a revision of the CBC. Sometimes behavior reflects misunderstanding or a need for education and training or certain behaviors could suggest fatigue, apathy, or a mismatch between a person s talents and the job. [Pg.154]
